From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

And as with every other of these browser lists some flavor of the month new firefox-based one wins. One that might or might not still exist in that form in another year (here it's one that only exists as firefox release-based for a year - before that is was a fork from some old firefox version or even based on chrome at some point). 🥱

ungoogled chromium and floorp were the top tier, only one of them is ff based, neither one of them is new, both are weird choices for the top.

It ain’t really his top.

He said in the video that he uses Floorp and Chromium so he can’t put them in another tier.

What he thinks is best is in the tier under.

[–] dusk@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago

So he has ungoogled chromium, and floorp as top tier, uses them, but doesn't see them as the best

Then he has vivaldi, watefox, librewolf, and zen in 2nd tier, but they are the best ones?

It's like a tier list on reddit, someone just wanting to look at the pretty pictures while not making much sense

Some obvious omissions too: firedragon, mullvad, tor, ddg

Tor is also noteworthy to be mentioned.

CIA honeypot

Then again, the guy recommended Proton

[–] magguzu@lemmy.pt 9 points 3 days ago

Proton is legit.

Don't confuse privacy and anonymity.

[–] JollyRebellion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What convinced you it’s a honeypot? I’ve been reading about it lately but remain unconvinced. Just curious

[–] Cheebus@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I believe the theory is it’s possible to de anonymize tor by controlling a majority of exit nodes which some people believe the government does

Another one to check out is I2P if you haven’t seen it

[–] iusemybrain@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Its not just the exit nodes, you also need to control the entrance nodes to pinpoint people in the network.

That is an expensive arrangement which I doubt the CIA or defense industry would put money towards to surveil people going through the network.

[–] Cheebus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

That makes sense good add, thx!

Makes sense, thanks for the response. I’ve set up I2P on my computer but haven’t used it much yet. I love the concept though

00:48 nope, legitimacy lost.
