Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Is Oklahoma fucking stupid?

Yes. They're ranked amongst the lowest in public education throughout the entirety of the US.

Thus making gender markers useless as they no longer reflect reality, like if you were stuck with the address assigned at birth. Might as well get rid of the concept altogether.

You're telling me they're making the best solution the only legally viable fix? This is terrific.

So you can have men competing in women's sports ... as long as it's due to a clerical error shortly after their birth.

Yeah that makes sense. That seems like a totally logical thing to decide.

GOP wants to oppress everyone.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 19 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Close, the GOP and evangelical Christianity want to control reality. So that nothing can potentially threaten their precious and absurd world view

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

They see the Handmaid’s Tale as the GOP platform.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 8 points 16 hours ago

It’s the handmaids tale and also the turner diaries, they want to do both

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 2 points 15 hours ago

If there’s one thing we know about reality, it’s that absolutely nothing ever changes and there’s absolutely no way rigid rules ever end up doing great unintended harm even beyond the intentional harm /S

Next to legislating from the bench (which does have downsides), this is more or less what I'd hope for. They made weird laws. Make them have weird consequences.

"Are you trans?"

"Yes, but only because of a clerical error."

[–] egrets@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago

Assigned Male at DMV.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 22 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Less than 1% of people living there would even consider changing their marker on their documents. There are probably more clerical errors that happen than Trans folk who need their marker change.

Glad to have a source that links the decision! Excellent article.

Of COURSE this DOESNT apply to Cis People!

-Republicans!

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Research shows that when societies kick trans people out of sports and bathrooms harassment towards cis women increases.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Damn, it’s almost like trans rights are human rights.

That whole idea that nature doesn’t regress is aging like milk.

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

That’s not really an theory to begin with. Evolution doesn’t imply progression in the sense of becoming generally better, but rather more suited to a specific pressure.

In this sense, organisms don’t regress unless you are speaking in terms of a specific advantage.

Have whatever opinion on the whole trans issue, making clerical errors permanent is ridiculous.
