1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

I get a lot of crap for my New Balances, but they did 26km of meadow hiking and no problems on the feet. Thats a win in my book.

I know new balance used to be great but no idea if they have kept up the quality.

So, like, do you have a trail name?

Hi dad, I'm shoes.

I love the Italian alps

Last pair of NB I bought fell apart on me after a month, glad you've had better luck!

[–] sudoshakes@reddthat.com 6 points 21 hours ago

Bought this 3 years ago. Still going strong!

It honestly depends on the model.

I buy NB trail running shoes for walks in the woods with my dogs and they’ll last 2-3 years with everyday use.

I’ve bought models of their running shoe before for just everyday use and they fell apart quick.

My standbys are the 608s (or whatever number they’re at now) and the 481s.

I dont remember what model I got, but they were a mesh top, and where the mesh met the sole busted out almost immediately. I have slightly wide feet and bought a standard width pair, so I suspect that was part of the problem, but I certainly wouldn't have expected them to blow out after less then two weeks or so.

The wider width offerings is why I became a fan. NB and Skechers are two that seem to have a lot of options in 4 EE.

I'm not allowed "cool shoes" because I require arch support. Both NB and Sketchers have specialized shoes that accommodate that, are comfortable, and reasonablely priced.

But I really want them to provide some styles that have good arch support that doesn't radiate "old man orthopedics".

It’s too bad because NB had a custom shoe designer page where you could build your own and it would be made in the USA.

They were a little expensive but worth it if you had special requirements. I’m pretty sure Covid killed that though.

I had a high end pair that lasted daily wear for about 2 years, and then just disintegrated one day. The cat had peed in them, so I took them outside to hose them off and they practically came apart like they were made of sugar.

This was a decade ago and I treated those shoes like shit, but they were easily top 3 most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

They aren't really dad shoes anymore, lots of young people wear them now. And socks damn near to their knees.

[–] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 3 points 15 hours ago

Am dad, have orange new balance.

doesn't get any more dadshoe than that.

Unless I tell a dumb joke. "I could have gotten black shoes, orange you glad I didn't?"

You're welcome.

Hey, whatever makes you faster than everyone else when the bear gives chase.

[–] PlantJam@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Orange is a very fast color, I think OP will be safe. If they were grey or black he'd have to worry, or maybe just add some racing stripes.

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Nonsense! Why then F1 isn't all orange?

[–] PlantJam@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

You know how some companies wait for a patent to almost run out before they come out with a slightly better version? Same concept with the car paint.

I don't know why New Balance gets so much shit. They gave us each a pair for PT in boot camp. Best pair of athletic shoes I ever had.

[–] sudoshakes@reddthat.com 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Hello fellow boot camp new balance wearer.

I wasn't a fan of NB for a while, but then I bought a pair and they're very comfortable.

[–] solitaire404@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Orange is my favorite color, what is yours?

[–] sudoshakes@reddthat.com 4 points 17 hours ago

Royal blue in general.

Deep green for paint.

Shoes, I have always been a black and green sorta guy.
