It means the algorithm learns from previous laps, constantly adapting to the input it gets from the driver to optimise deployment for the next one, something Piastri said also applies to an out-lap.
A few years ago, this was cutting edge AI.
Self-lerning might be realised just as adaptive control I suppose or very basic machine learning like linear regression and such things can be hyped as AI. But of course, I just speculate, maybe they are insane enough to use code from chatgpt or deep learning network which does not generalise since it would require billions of training examples.
