Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

It isn't the most extreme rollercoaster in existence, like people seem to be implying. At a peak of 4 G's, that's in the median for a rollercoaster. Meaning, there's nothing unusual about the G-forces of the X2 and nothing out of the ordinary was found about it. There are rollercoasters that go up to 6 G's which aren't causing people's brains to explode.

Isn't it more likely the deaths are coincidences? If 4 G's was enough to cause fatal brain bleeds, then I'd assume stunt pilots, astronauts, and fighter pilots wouldn't exist. And you can't train your brain not to bleed.

What's actually going on here? The ride was retired earlier today, as well, due to the pressure of the lawsuits: https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/six-flag-magic-mountain-x2-roller-coaster-closure/

I'm asking on Lemmy because when I tried to make an account and post on r/rollercoasters it got auto-modded, so fuck that.

If 4 G’s was enough to cause fatal brain bleeds, then I’d assume stunt pilots, astronauts, and fighter pilots wouldn’t exist. And you can’t train your brain not to bleed.

G forces are good for measuring sustained force in one direction, relevant when you're worried about fluids draining somewhere. Pilots are trained not to make an inverted turn that would be 4Gs towards their head, because that drains too much blood into your brain and will cause a stroke. 4Gs towards your feet or back on the other hand is no problem. You can't just have some G number and say that's safe.

NASA cancelled the Ares I rocket because even though the linear acceleration was less than 4Gs, it vibrated, and the astronauts all the way on one end of a 100 meter long vibrating stick would be getting jerked back and forth. Instead of excessive blood pressure popping a blood vessel, the threat was sloshing brain tissue stretching out and tearing blood vessels.

Looking at some video of X2 it's pretty obvious how people would get a brain bleed. It's trying to rotate people while they go around the track, and the hydraulics visibly suck and are shuddering and jerking like crazy. If people's legs are flopping around like limp noodles, their brain on the other end of that rotation is going to be sloshing and twisting and that's eventually going to tear something in somebody. The ideal design of the coaster was probably safe but unlike a fixed track where it either breaks or it doesn't some 4D hydraulic system requires a lot of money to keep it ideal.

Is this the "drowning in a canal" thing again?

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

I thought that, you can tell because of how thick they are

[–] Xyre@lemmus.org 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everyone knows the deep state is lying to you about being able to drown in 4Gs of coaster water!

[–] actionjbone@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago

Of course it was a lie. That's why they switched everyone to 5G.

Is this "The Chav" again? How can you tell?

[–] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

Mostly the profound ignorance.

Next conspiracy theory: drowning on a roller coaster

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's not the maximum G force being experienced that is causing the issue. If that was the case, all jet fighter pilots would be brain damaged.

I'm pretty sure it must be sudden changes in direction sloshing the brain around inside the cranium.

Yeah thats the issue with this ride. When i looked at them they all say its a very rough ride and your head is thrown into the sides several times throughout which may not be a huge issue for a lot of people, but for it to be bad enough to even do this to a few people now and again is kind of terrifying. They gotta fix it, im not even sure why thats up for discussion.

Two deaths is a coincidence.

Three or more deaths is a pattern.
