Nur means light in Persian and Nura means something like "The one who brings light". It's a girl's name. beautiful.

I like this rebrand. I didn't really like the name postmarketOS as much. Didn't dislike it, it was just that its acronym became pOS, which I disliked. Nura OS can stay Nura or can become the acronym NOS, both of which are kickass. Also, that logo is amazing. I'm hoping they succeed in their mission.
Go Nura!! I don't mind the new name, I just want the project to succeed and one day have a functioning phone running it.
Finally the name is descriptive. Although that can help people understand what the project is about
Nura comes as an abbreviation of Nuraghe, which are ancient (3000 BC and older) granite structures found in Sardinia in Italy, many of which still stand today. The deeper meaning is the stability and the resistance to millenniums, which fits well with the our project as the idea has been from the start to keep devices our OS runs on useful for a long time.
Pretty weird logic. The previous name was a literal description of the project, the new one is way more vague. I seriously doubt anyone will understand what it is based on an abbreviation of literal ancient history.
No, they said the old name was descriptive and limiting the scope of the project, hence the new name that is not descriptive but also not limited.
Just like crDroid is one of the most customizable Android ROMs ever, the name doesn't say it but it's still simple I'm gonna remember.
That said, I have no idea what "postmarket" means.

it is an "after you buy the system from the market" operating system. Its not the one that came on it from the market.

You're correct, I completely misread that. I wonder why they didn't go with NuraOS/Nura OS, though? It is a fairly standardised naming format that would make it immediately clear, regardless of context, that the thing being discussed was an operating system.
Why are you renaming the project?
Through the years, most members of the team have experienced difficulties doing outreach for "postmarketOS" due to the complexity of the name. The name is long and can be very hard to pronounce in many languages. This also has the implication that it gets very hard to remember in those same languages.
The capitalization is also grammatically awkward, with lower-case "p" and "m" but upper-case "OS". We have seen Postmarketos (PostMarketOS?, PostmarketOS?, post-market OS?) written in too many ways, which is confusing to both the reader and the writer.
Finally the name is descriptive. Although that can help people understand what the project is about, it also limits the scope of the project in ways that were out-of-touch with reality long ago, for example when PINE64 sold PinePhones with postmarketOS pre-installed. What was initially an asset, became a liability after all these years. The name being descriptive also means it cannot be trademarked. We believe trademarks can be important, as it allows the project to protect users against fraudulent uses of the name, or users clearly misaligned with the project goals. A trademark for the new name has already been filled.
All in all, "postmarketOS" has served us very well, it brought us to where we are now, and will always be part of our history. At the same time, we believe that to make the project better known outside the hacker community, a rename to a name with less meaning and easier to write, pronounce, and remember would be of benefit of the project.
