They portrait Chris Hansen as obsessed with himself and show's success to the detriment of the sting operations. Which seems accurate.
I'm not sure how to feel about the surreal elements. Maybe it makes sense to someone more familiar with Chris Hansen.

Is that what Hansen is crying about? It's literally true. Due to the way the show was produced they had to throw out a whole bunch of cases since they didn't follow due process. So it was more like "To Catch and Release a Predator" most of the time.
For the record them getting that one guy to off himself was objectively awesome

Otherwise, all themes in media will completely fly over their head and they will just shoehorn everything into their pre-existing ideology. People are now only media literate when they go out of their way to accquire such skills on their own, it's just what happens when you defund the humanities for long enough.
So it's kind of like a movie I watched drunk once of a detective that, in the pursuit of one particular guy he had a grudge against, ignored "lesser" criminals, botched other investigations and directly allowed some innocents to get murdered. I think the moral was both the detective and the killer were both bad guys? Idk.
