no xd.

the grace of LaTeX, one of many really, is that it is not xd.

From what I understand, the advantage of Latex is that the user can focus on the content and worry about formatting later. Word, and other word processors push you to format as you go, thus disrupting your workflow much more.

How? You tell the layout when and where the image should go, the beauty of LaTeX is that you don't have one text flow but as many as you like.

Haven't used latex for any actual papers but when it was pitched it became pretty clear it was for power users. I just assume it's working like they want it to.

Also, word formatting has a few options to determine how the formatting should interact with text that even has little example icons for it. IIRC I just did wrap text and moved it around easily once I was finished other editing.

Dorks recommending that other dorks who couldn't even figure out Word should instead use a gui wrapper around an overcomplicated text-based markup format are a special kind of something.

That said, I havent even looked at LaTeX in over twenty years so maybe it has had dramatic improvements since the invention of markdown...

i used it in uni a few years ago, i think it's manageable. Wasn't too complicated. On the other hand, I'm a programmer so my experience may not transfer lol.

If you are having that much pain with the picture placement, odds are you are using LaTeX for the wrong thing, and should be writing something like HTML or SVG.

Either that or you are assuming placing your images in the middle of the text of your paper will make it more legible.

Images are always a bit of a pain. But if it's that much, you are doing something that LaTeX just doesn't want you to do.

Lol, imagining the faces of my post doc and my professor, where I to admit to writing my masters thesis in HTML

I think all of the downvotes are from people that no clue what LaTeX is, lol. Fediverse is a hilarious microcosm of nerds assuming other nerds sometimes.

Overleaf makes dipping your toes into latex quite easy. I'm looking forward yo what typst will be able to do though, some of that stuff seemed seriously cool
