Of course. Politics is always opportunistic. Few politicians do anything for free. Even someone like Mamdani just realized that its politically profitable to do left wing politics and went for it. That doesnt make him a "bad" person, but he wouldnt do it if the political landscape wasnt ripe for it.
This is incorrect. One guy raised an objection, which the state department can and probably will ignore.

I guess republicans controlled the purse and the executive branch could have refused to execute it. Is takes time to convince people something is wrong with Israel. Especially because of the Holocaust.
Few people in politics can be trusted. The very nature of the game is telling people what they want to hear. If you want trustworthy politicians, then you need to have voters willing to hear, accept, and prefer the truth - no matter how unpleasant. Only then can true progress be made on a consistent basis.
