There was a lot going on this episode. Loved it

I am absolutely loving this season. Great challenges and by far their best race-based ruleset to date. But I'm especially enjoying, for the first time in a long time, the travel show aspect. The amount of reverence for the nature and culture of Japan in this season has been delightful.

With the sushi belt, did the rules say the options chosen had to be secret? When I first heard the rules it sounded to me like a legit strategy could be to publicly chose three options at different prices that are clearly identifiable and then shuffle them up and blindly identify.

There are often very detailed rules that we don't see on screen, according to The Layover when Tom questions various Taskmaster-style shortcuts. I think they got very cautious on this since "are humans an animal?"

That’s true, and I know they’ve moved away from the taskmastering since it didn’t get received well by the audience. But personally when I first saw this task I didn’t think it was really a taskmaster approach. It was literally the first most obvious interpretation of the task.

I know that using the curse reverse would have been a really bad play, but I still somehow wanted to see the Sushi challenge blocked after they protected it. But I think this protection wasn't that good timing wise as they could have used the tracker to see whether Adam and Tom gave up on the house of cards and reoriented themselves before pulling the trigger.

Ignoring the unlock was definitely a bad play, but I get how they missed this. And too bad that you can't pre-complete challenges. The timing of the bamboo challenge drop would have been insane otherwise.

While the rice challenge is now removed, we will still get to see some new challenges "tomorrow" and Adam/Tom still have a reshuffle to not get too stuck again. Especially considering the Shinkansen move that Ben&Sam are planning. I hope they will stay neck in neck for a while so that no team is in a huge lead and the other looses prematurely or so

All in all I hope the season will keep them neck in neck till the end and will not prematurely have a winner decided.

Yeah the unlock was easy to miss at a glance: not just the lake like they said but Shiga is less than 5km from the sea at the closest point.

I'm not surprised both teams missed chances to figure out what the other was doing from the tracker because there's a lot going on all the time so sometimes they must just need a pause to let their brain cool down and heart rate fall!

Sam saying in the Layover that GYG is "awful" is absolute sacrilege. It's easily in my—and most people's I know/have talked about this question with—top 2 or 3 fast food places in Aus. Many would place it #1. My biggest critique is the prices; it's very expensive compared to KFC, Maccas, or Red Rooster, especially compared to the portion sizes they serve.
