I wonder if the headless mode has anything to do with Heroic's upcoming itch support. Heroic would only add stores if they could utilise an external cli program to use it. Not sure if that is still the case.

I've been out of the loop. I didn't know Itch.io had an app, and by the look of the github page they have linux releases going back to late 2015.

The trouble with the Linux support is that you could only download games with Linux versions with it. And I think only those that have been uploaded in a very specific way.

Oh, that's not so practical then. And no way to get it to download the full installers like GOG Galaxy can do?

Maybe they've changed it by now. Heroic is also working on itch integration, so I'm holding out for that.

It's never been a great experience, it's been a few years since I used it but it had a bunch of issues and itch didn't seem to care much about fixing it.

Itch.io is a game store, specifically popular with indie devs.

There's no fee to publish a game on itch, and devs can choose what % goes to itch if they choose to charge for the game. They can also sell games where they let the customers pick what price to pay. Overall it's very dev freedom focused and is very popular for smaller/experimental games and game jams.
