Found on Pixiv. Original post indicates it was a commission, posted right around the time Neo gave Ruby the tea.
Man, what a character. Can't help but feel like the authors didn't know what to do with them.
I lowkey miss Roman, he was funny. V1-3 RWBY was really best RWBY.
The entire fandom misses Roman. One thing the fandom is united on is that he and Pyrrha being written out kept their appearances memorable without degrading them through 6 more seasons.
Personally, there are bits and pieces of every volume I find interesting, but taken as a whole there are so many problems that I can't decide on any era of the show being "the best". I think the four color trailers still hold up individually, though, and have only gained more appreciation for them and their "alpha versions" of the characters over time.
Red trailer so good it's still doing better numbers than entire volumes.
Yeah that's fair about Roman and Pyrrha. One of those "die a good character or live long enough to become a bad one" moments.
Re: The trailers. I agree for all except Yellow trailer. Red is a phenomenal piece of animation, music, and fight choreography, and my favorite trailer. I don't particularly like White, purely from preference (not a fan of Weiss or her fighting style); the trailer itself is, from a technical perspective, quite good. Black had some story beats in it, which was nice, and Blake's original fighting style is so good (plus we get Adam the Aura farmer). Yellow... well, I liked the reload animation. The dialogue and character actions are... let's just say the correct answer to a child suggesting to kiss and make up is not to say ok and lean forward.
(^﹏^ ;) Yeeeeaaaah, I've got no excuse for that. Between Junior being a certified creep^tm^ and Yang doing a sexual assault (with grabbing Junior by the balls), the whole fandom does the kind of "you gotta just ignore that part" that anime fans are familiar with. Fight-wise, I actually think it's one of Yang's better showings with the way she uses footwork against the Malachite twins. Unfortunately it also kind of fumbles at the finish line with Ruby getting a very un-rehearsed speaking line and a very confusing shot of the morning sun and shattered moon in the same frame that led to some thinking there were two moons.
Honestly I think the Black and Yellow trailers both being heavier on the lore end up marring them, because they had not figured the story out yet. So in the Black Trailer you've got Blake already wearing her bow which just leads to so many questions when we learn she's supposed to be in hiding (not to mention the Shadow the Edge-hog levels of emo music (I half-jest, I do like it for its unabashedness but it's still trying way too hard)); and in the Yellow Trailer you've got Yang looking for some mysterious someone they hadn't figured out (I'm 85% sure it's fanon that she's supposed to be looking for Raven here) and then causes thousands of dollars in property damage before heading off to school, that's if you ignore the possibility of going to the bar while underage. But the fights are nice.
Re; Yellow trailer's fight choreography and ending. I'm actually of the opposite opinion lol; I though the fights were more or less ok, but we've seen in other trailers (and even in that one) people flying around all over the place and executing insane, unreal maneuvers. Meanwhile, the fight with the malachite twins felt so low profile in comparison. I can appreciate the footwork and movements (esp when she takes out the second twin); don't get me wrong, the animation and choreography are great, it just feels out of sync with the other trailers and other parts of the fight. As for the ending, I actually really like it. It pretty quickly establishes Ruby's and Yang's relationships, and Ruby's personality as well. It's a cute moment if nothing else.
Re: the lore. They had no clue what they were doing with the story when they launched the trailers. As much as I love and miss Monty and his work, he and the others had no plan. In Red, they put Ruby in front of a grave because they thought it would look cool, with no plan for why she's in front of it; someone suggested it to be her mom as a throwaway comment and the authors just said "yeah that's cool." I mostly consider the trailers to be all pseudocanon as a result.
Fair enough. Much as the fandom would probably label me a certified hater, I have a hard time keeping things in mind other than what's right in front of me so I never really think to compare that fight to the others in terms of bombasticness, instead I focus on getting to see Yang do more than just throw punches (or when they get to V7/8 and it's just slow blurry arm movements to imply punches).
