I quite like the oldest mall I've got where I live, given that it's totally open and Yugoslav built, but I very much despise the 9 or maybe 10 other modern European-style malls we have. For various reasons.

Metal has a very visible white supremacy problem but these types aren't anywhere near the majority. It's more like with 40k where these chuds get drawn by aesthetics but are gradually cornered off into their own insulated communities, away from the rest of us, while they scream about how they're the "real" fans and everyone else is a tourist.
With the one distinction being that unlike Games Workshop with 40k there's no overarching authority to them to permanently fuck off so it's up to bands & labels to do that. That decentralization makes it harder to fully shut them up and push them out, making them more visible.

i said it in the other comment, i don't have a direct connection to the "metal" culture, i understand if my point comes from cliches, and ig metal is too broad of a category to successfully judge it for representing or being represented by racist figures or a racist community (or anything really).
but still i think that a lot of the culture is racist, and it begins at the "non political" or "music above politics" nature of some of it's content and behavior of the bands, which opens itself to a lot of racists right-wingers and makes people tolerate racist figures. even art that is explicitly "progressive" still happen to have problems with a racist audience, so imagine a "neutral" band
black metal is an easy card to play so i won't get into it, the scene is exclusively nazi and i won't be convinced otherwise.
I am willfully ignorant of any politics of metal bands, because they often have some absolutely vile opinions. Like Pantera (The Abbot brothers are classic confederates, Phil Anselmo is a neonazi), Slayer (Tom Araya is a rabid homophobe), Gojira (LIBS), not that I listen to many but black metal bands (Varg Vikernes comes to mind). Makes the music a lot easier to listen to. But I do like the fact that Carcass are vegetarian (used to be vegans) and Napalm Death are somewhat punk adjascent.
Grindcore is punk, at least more punk than metal,
I think what's makes the metal culture racist from my pov is the "not political" nature of the bands which opens up to all different categories of racist right-wingers, another thing is extreme metal scenes (mainly black metal) are full of low life edgy teenagers (which is exclusive to racist right wingers).
System of a down may come to mind as progressistes, I mean serj takian is very vocal about Gaza but if i remember i think the drummer was a maga guy and the other singer made a horrible song that is like "I'm sick of the right and I'm sick of the left grrrr >:(", and imo that's the most left you can go without getting into punk.
but i don't live in the west and I'm disconnected from the local metal culture, so i can't be sure of that!!!
