Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

The best time to have made Canada digitally sovereign would have been before an American president announced his intention to annex Canada and began explicitly deploying America's tech companies to attack his geopolitical adversaries.

The second-best time is now.

Finally got a chance to read all the way through. One thing stood out:

There's even a kind of twisted honour in committing yourself to drinking Wayne Gretzky's shitty rye in preference to delicious American bourbon, a way to affirm your love of country with each astringent, metallic swallow.

Fuck Gretzky. He's personal friends with the Trumps. Fuck him through both ears with a rusty chainsaw.

I prefer Gibson's whiskey anyway.

There are so many good reasons to legalize jailbreaking. It's not even jailbreaking - I bought a thing. As long as I take responsibility if I break the thing, I should be able to do what I want with it.

My understanding is we (Canada) agreed to honour US IP in exchange for access to free trade. Now trade is off the table we have no incentive to continue protecting their copyrights, patents, licenses etc.

Call me an American Canada Web, I absolutely hope Canada continues to stand up for itself and am 1000000% energized by a potential future where Canadian tech competes with US tech.

The first part of that headline is strictly optional AFAIC.

Canada's federal and provincial ministries are all entirely dependent on American cloud software, most notably Microsoft's Office 365, a package that Trump has fashioned into a geopolitical weapon, ordering Microsoft to shut down foreign officials who thwarted his plans, denying them access to all their data and cutting off their ability to communicate with the outside world:

I have written my MP about getting off of MS but he is a do nothing Conservative back bencher, who has stopped replying to my emails. I have been meaning to contact my MLA to try and convince her to push the provincial NDP off of Microslop.

I personally have always been an Apple fan girl, until recently. I have a Mac mini that I stopped using because I also had a Mac Pro. The Mac Pro died on me, so I was going to replace it with a M1 or 2 mini but for some reason both the original one I got and the replacement one all did not like the TV I have and VNC was not working well so I thought I would stick with my iPad and iPhone and raspberry pi’s I realized recently that I should get all my music off of the iTunes store and saved to a drive as I wanted all my music again. Me being really security focused I wanted to update it before I spent to much time downloading the music. With all the security measures I have in place I thought it would probably be safe but one weak spot can crash the whole thing down. No security updates were available for it because it was so old so I thought I will get the music copy it over to a drive and than turn it off for the last time.

I had it turned off when I thought hey even though it is from 2014 I am sure it still has some abilities to do things. I have 3 pi 5’s I want to turn one into my off site backup thing so what if I install Debian on the Mac Mini and use that to replace some of the things my pi fleet was doing and than move one of my pi’s off site. I have now done that, well the moving the pi off site has not happened yet, I need a new SD card for it because I still needed a pi to replace one of the services so I just replaced it with the pi zero 2 I still had kicking around.
