is the worst dealmaker of all time (many are saying it)
Push harder. For the love of all gods above and below, please push all the way through New England. Make us a province. We'd be so much more productive as part of Canada. We're already a massive chunk of the United States' GDP. Their military is exhausted from that stupid pointless deployment to the strait of Hormuz. Can't even afford to feed its fucking sailors. A paper tiger, nearly defenseless. You'd be welcomed as liberators.
No. Fix your own shit. Leave us alone.
Nobody is going to save you, because nobody can.
The US, famous for socializing its corporate costs, is now trying to socialize its political costs.
I'd rather an independent Republic of New England closely allied with Canada, but I'm right there with ya. Carve us off this dying carcass, post-haste.
Sorry, you don't have anything we want.
New England is full of Americans, and to be perfectly honest, that's a deal breaker.
they'll stop being americans the moment they're made canadian.
5% of the US GDP is a massive chunk? California alone is like 3x that. Florida by itself is more than that. Save for Massachusetts, every other state in New England is virtually irrelevant compared to any other state in terms of contribution to GDP. Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine all account for less than half, or less than a quarter, percent each. They all contribute less, and in some cases less than half, what the city of DC does.
I lived in Mass for years and if theres one thing I learned while I was there its that New Englanders have an incredibly delusional sense of regional superiority. New England wouldnt even be able to feed itself without all the places it calls “flyover” states lmao
Connecticut alone contributes approx. 30% of US aviation and naval defense contracting.
Sounds like that would be tough to do when hypothetically not being part of the United States
Also, either way, Connecticut is still a measly 1% contribution to the US GDP
So, just to put this in perspective, since you love your percentages, the New England contribution to the US GDP is 5%. That's approximately 2 trillion dollars.
The entire Canadian GDP is 2.51 trillion.
Adding New England would almost double the Canadian GDP.
Still unappealing?
I bet it would be appealing for Canada, but thats not my point. My point is calling 1/20th of the US GDP a “massive portion” is hilariously delusional, and its indicative of how out of touch New Englanders are that they think they are that essential to the country.
A nickel isnt a “massive portion” of a dollar. Its barely anything by comparison. Canada would double its GDP and the US GDP would hardly blink twice
Please point out anywhere in this thread where I said "a massive portion". Don't drag my argument with you into whatever issue you have with someone else.
I’d be down with that. Would you be willing to gasp socialize and allow universal healthcare??
Following this line of reasoning, the US-Israel-Iran conflict has far reaching impact. The US bond market is looking poor. Japan is a huge buyer of US bonds, and due in part to the stress of the energy shortages from the conflict, the Japanese Yen is falling hard. The US intervention to prop up the Yen is a drop in the bucket, and basically exposes the limits of US tools to mitigate the rise of interest the US pays on its debt. The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve is drawn down to impractical levels, potentially permanently damaging the long-term viability of the caverns used to store the oil. When you also consider the US overexposed to AI products to no where, there's a scenario where this all topples upon the Americans in the form of extremely high costs of living.
Seventy million barrels is the strict physical minimum needed at the top of the caverns to keep the extraction pipes safely submerged in oil rather than water, said Siddharth Misra, a petroleum engineering professor at Texas A&M University.
But “the practical operational floor for the crude inventory is between 250 million and 300 million barrels,” Misra said in an email to CNBC. At current inventory levels, “cavern integrity and overall operational capability are at an elevated risk,” he said.
When the inventory drops below 300 million barrels, the SPR loses its ability to pump oil at rapid speeds to address emergencies, Misra said. The system’s pipes and pumps could also get damaged as the oil layer thins at the top and sludge rises toward the extraction intake at the cavern ceiling, he said.

After the 30-year US Treasury yield hit 5.34% on Tuesday – its highest level since 2007, before the global financial crisis – the Treasury Department staged an unusual intervention. On Wednesday, it said it would “at least double” the amount of older, long-dated debt it regularly buys back from investors.

In the years past, a trade war with the US would be disastrous. Now, Canada and the so-called Middle Powers may have the stamina to out last the US. None of this bodes well if the US collapses itself on its own weight...but perhaps that much is actually up to the Americans.
As Anne Hathaway says, "inchallah"
Based Wab.
I see nothing wrong with what he says. USA is a ticking bomb ready to explode. Why Canada or any other country help USA?
Look Europe, they agreed to buy oil from them for reduced tariffs, yet they don't Buy any.
They're out of missiles too so they can't even do the 51st state saber rattling in a believable fashion anymore.
Canada would be worse for us than Ukraine is for Russia right now.
We also have Ukrainian drone factories here. Could definitely increase production if needed.
