slop textMy grandfather was a Nazi. I apologize for him I regret I repent I am sorry Friedrich “Fritz” Fehlinger (1913–1969) was involved in National Socialist student structures before and during the Second World War. According to the family records I am researching, after 1938 he worked in the German student apparatus, was sent to Brno, and was later transferred to the German diplomatic mission in Agram/Zagreb, where he worked in the cultural section. My grandmother Grete and their young son Günther lived with him in Zagreb in 1942/43. He was later called up for military service. Family records state that he served on the Western Front, fought in the Ardennes, and subsequently became an American prisoner of war. The surviving accounts differ on the exact date of his release and return: one family version says autumn 1945, another says that he remained in American captivity until 1947 and was released in Normandy. I am continuing archival research to establish the exact military record. I want to say this clearly and without excuses: I condemn National Socialism completely. I deeply regret my grandfather’s involvement in Nazi structures, and I apologize for this dark chapter of my family history. I cannot change what he did. But I can refuse to hide it, romanticize it, or minimize it. I can investigate the facts, publish what I find, acknowledge the victims of National Socialism, and take responsibility for how this history is remembered. Never again Nazism. Never again antisemitism. Never again racial hatred, dictatorship, political persecution, or totalitarianism. Family history must also include the uncomfortable truth. Remembrance means responsibility. I will continue researching Friedrich Fehlinger’s political activities, his work in Zagreb, his military service, the Ardennes period, and his American captivity, and I will correct the public record wherever the evidence requires it.

Austria already elected a nazi as their leader, so it wouldn't be a surprise

I mean, at least he's doing the right thing about it I suppose, seems like nowadays everyone wants to be a Chrystia Freeland kkkanada vis-a-vis their nazi ancestry and pass it off as like, good.

He's doing the German thing of going "I'm sooooo sooorry" while actually thinking it's the coolerst thing ever

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

He's promoting the same shit that Nazi Germany was doing, his foreign policy is literally the same as Nazi Germany except that he wants the US as the leader of the world instead of Germany.

Being a descendant of nazis is no surprise. I'm more interested in what that guy did in Zagreb. What's the history there?

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Maybe a "cultural section" is just the term for working with their puppet state?

A Gestapo report to Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler, dated 17 February 1942, stated:

Increased activity of the bands [of rebels] is chiefly due to atrocities carried out by Ustaše units in Croatia against the Orthodox population. The Ustaše committed their deeds in a bestial manner not only against males of conscript age, but especially against helpless old people, women and children. The number of the Orthodox that the Ustaše have massacred and sadistically tortured to death is about three hundred thousand.
Wikipedia: Ustaše - World War II

That's one of the more pleasant descriptions.

Comments kick ass, he is apparently not gross and racist enough for the average european.

In the Europe system, the people are represented by two separate but equally important groups: the liberal far right, who investigate Russia; and the populist fascists, who say racist things about non-white migrants. These are their stories.

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

OK he's "ashamed" of it or whatever, but then he learns nothing about this and continues to promote the same shit that Nazi germany was doing before wtf
