I'm not sure, but I assume these would be controlled by the state. In which case, thank you to the state firefighters and their home states. But not to the United States as a whole. Not from me anyway.

They (the 600 or so personnel currently up there) are ultimately from the US forest service so yes federal, though it's not clear if they're operating thru the NIFC or coordinating directly with CIFFC, which is... bureaucratically very telling. The US firefighting aircraft up there are for sure being coordinated at the federal level, though I don't believe any have been directly loaned out as they're pretty busy working on the US' fires right now too. Lots of cross-border support and the air crews are being run absolutely ragged.
