2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

The ridiculously complex Campaign for North Africa boasts 1,500 hours and recommends you play with 10 people - these gamers aim to finish it with two.

20 months and 88 episodes after this folly began, they are finally done with the six-turn practice scenario, and are ready for the entire 111-turn war.

They will die before the game is done. It will fall to their children to continue the tradition of the fathers. Their children will watch on and dream of an end to the war.

At that rate, the game should only take just under 31 years to complete, making it 10 times longer than the actual campaign the game is based on.

[–] Brainsploosh@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

To be fair, the actual campaign involved more players

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 20 points 4 days ago

And every tabletop veteran knows how adding more players makes the game go much faster!

Their children will throw away that shit. Games shouldn't become torture devices.

Their children will struggle against their opponents children. Families locked in a bitter struggle generation after generation

Infamous for its "pasta rule" which requires Italian troops to use more water supplies so they can cook spaghetti,

HAHAHA

Ok that alone makes me I wish I knew 9 other gamers who could dedicate the time.

In another lifetime it would be talking about trains.

Wait until they get to the essence of the game.

It’s about the cones

I came to the thread for Cones references and I am now happy.

What a great idea for a podcast! I'm going to dig into it for sure.

War With a Mate, for those who didn't click through.

I imagine it’s a lot like religion where at a certain point you start to seriously question if the creator ever knew what they were doing…

Reminds me of the Star Craft board game. It's super awesome but also pretty complex and in that complexity really managed to capture what it's like to play the video game.

It takes a long time to complete and on top of that we always have to re-learn it which leads to us playing it less which of course exacerbates the problem.

I believe it is the same game that was reimplemented to 40k instead and changed name to Forbidden Stars. Pretty cool game and above what average casuals play.

The boardgame market is huge and more people should try more games. There really is something for everyone, any number of players and time frame.

I love board games but can't ever find people to play with. Trying to get my kid into it but the attention span isn't there yet.

[–] Minnels@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

I have a 4 year old and yeah, the attention span is not great. Looked up the German "boardgame of the year for kids", found and bought Cascadia Junior so I would have something to play with him and it has been great. Easy match 3 with animals and nature.

I played around 200+ sessions a year back in the day but since I moved a couple of years ago I have had the same problem with finding people. Got better opportunities now again to play more boardgames. I just have to engage myself a bit more to get started.

Don't worry guys, the CNA video its just a week away

[–] redhorsejacket@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Well, ain't this board game a temporal oddity? A week away for years now!

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Gameplay Magazine calls it "Punishingly intricate.”

If it is not even a good game I am not sure why anyone would do this.

[–] Olap@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Because they can. Humans fucking rock
