I didn't like this song when it was new. I remember seeing it on MTV, and, censored or not, seeing three naked guys running around had absolutely zero appeal for me, so I'd change the channel. Wouldn't give it a chance. Back then, I wouldn't even listen to blink-182 or bands like them on the radio. It wasn't what I wanted to hear and I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in it — because I didn't look.
It wasn't until we started playing Rockband that this song and others came up, and I was sort of forced to listen to them, and actually understand what they're saying (being as that I was the one with the microphone, I literally had to read all the lyrics — the exception being, if there was a Weird Al parody of the song, and I knew those lyrics, you could actually sing the other lyrics as long as you kept it in the key/tone of the original — this led to a LOT of fun with certain songs, IF you could pull it off, like when your friends pick American Pie by Don McLean and you start singing about Star Wars).
Not only are the first two verses cool, the third verse hits like a tonne of bricks, especially when you're older. I'd say I qualify — I haven't been 23 (the age the song says no one likes you at) in 23 years. "No one should take themselves so seriously / With so many years ahead to fall in line / Why would you wish that on me? / I never wanna act my age / What's my age again?"
For everyone telling you to just grow up... you got your whole life to do that. Enjoy being young while it lasts. But, don't go streaking, especially around children. I guess this video came out before the sex offender registry was a thing? But no, anyway, the genius of the video isn't the naked guys, it's how everyone else reacts to them. Yes, including the toddler with the magnifying glass.
