The weird thing is for America that's radical left. For the rest of the world, it's just left.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

For the rest of the world, it's just NORMAL.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

For sure. A whopping problem with the States is that the semi-recent period of relative greatness (~mid 30's to ~mid 70's) caused masses of Americans to buy all the way in to a national narrative, i.e. an American mythology. So too many of us turned off our brains, assumed that our rights were automatic, got distracted by petty issues the right likes to push, and meanwhile let capitalism capture most of our important government entities, little by little.

Pretty much the classic tale of a peoples who bought in to their own self-importance, and wound up getting knocked all the way down. Except this time it plays out in a late-stage capitalist, digital age, globally-connected world. Interesting times, indeed.

But what if you want to lock billionaires in camps?

[–] nieceandtows@programming.dev 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The pendulum as to swing all the way before it swings the other way.

Me, I think that's effectively bullshit, and here's that same image posted, with my reply:

I agree that Democrats are the only option to take down the radical right party. However, there is a point in the Democrat hierarchy after which there are only corporate interests and donors to please.

It is true that Democrats are more maleable and can be made to serve the people. This does not contradict the fact that their mismanagement and lack of advertising their wins makes them lose in the public opinion. It is disgusting that there were videos of Democrats covering their ears at Gaza protestors.

I really hope that the American people can help Democrats win the midterms and radically reduce the executive branch power while also reducing the lobbying power of big corporations before we reach technofeudalism.

Well said. A good modulation to what I initially stated.

Sadly, techno-feudalism might already said to be here, as I see it.

Meanwhile, all this as we race towards collapse, as effectively led by a group of billionaire fucks who simply don't care, and whose backup plan is to go live in their underground resorts when the inevitable happens. Sorry for my language.

My retirement plan is pouring concrete inside the ventilators of those rich fucks, don't worry

Eh, I'd say its more that it swings a unit one way, then 1.5 the other, then 2 units back, then 2.5 the other.

Radical left also includes stuff like #killallmen. You don't get to just be defined by your best beleifs, that's called propaganda.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The word "radical" is always going to include crazy, fringe stuff, but the real point here is that we're not really talking about radical stuff but practical or already occurring things, plus the way Americans commonly mislabel all this stuff.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Right: all the worst stuff.
Left: all the best stuff.
What do you mean I'm bias?"

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Reading the words, with the real message and context being different, is my point.

Your first clue was having to frame things in quotes, see..?

#2, ask yourself how many things are actively happening in terms of the Right.

#3, ask yourself how much "radical left" stuff there is perfectly ordinary policy when it comes to pretty much all other real democracies.

#4, notice how the "centrist" is no real centrist, again from a world POV?

Now think about how the stated words are very different from the actual reality, in real-world terms.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And my point is that the left come with a lot more than the socialist idealizations presented in the op.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 0 points 2 weeks ago

Good people on both sides.

[–] Beehaw_Girl@beehaw.org -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Okay but the far left also does things like getting rid of all the water in California so they can't fight fires.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm going to quote what I said in a sister comment:

The word β€œradical” is always going to include crazy, fringe stuff, but the real point here is that we’re not really talking about radical stuff but practical or already occurring things, plus the way Americans commonly mislabel all this stuff.

So #1 I'm not totally sure what you're referring to there, and #2 this was never really about the far left, anyway.
