Hi there

You got banned from lemmy.zip (over a year ago btw) for denying the genocide in Palestine.

This has the effect of removing the communities you moderate too, otherwise they wouldn't be moderated from our side.

Quite happy standing by that decision.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is there a link to the denial?

It's hard to traverse when someone has been banned & their content removed - thats just the first thing that jumps out in the modlog.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ouch. Thank you for posting revelatory content...

[–] pmjv@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

it's a title of an article that was shared in c/news

The block boss doesn't understand that.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

But the body of the article also claims that it isn't a genocide, and tries to conflate antizionism with antisemitism by saying that people who call it a genocide are one of those things (or both), and that it's just a way to hate on Jewish people (instead of it clearly being a charge against the Israeli government). Per the text:

So why does the argument over the word “genocide” matter? Two reasons.

First, while some pundits and scholars may sincerely believe the genocide charge, it is also used by anti-Zionists and antisemites to equate modern Israel with Nazi Germany. The effect is to license a new wave of Jew hatred, stirring enmity not only for the Israeli government but also for any Jew who supports Israel as a genocide supporter. It’s a tactic Israel haters have pursued for years with inflated or bogus charges of Israeli massacres or war crimes that, on close inspection, weren’t. The genocide charge is more of the same but with deadlier effects.

I wish that was more helpful in understanding their views, but unfortunately I've seen pro-israeli people who try to couch things by mentioning that the killing of Palestinians is bad, but (insert qualifier for why Israel has a right to defend itself, etc). To be clear I'm not saying that qrstuv is doing that as well there, just that it doesn't really clear things up as much as hoped.

I also want to mention I am not a fan of purity testing, I think it can result in witch hunts and potentially mob sentiment, but there is a point where it's useful for someone to make their views clear so as not to be misunderstood. qrstuv has been posting what I would personally consider pro-israeli propaganda nytimes articles for quite some time now, without ever adding any of their own additional context that would clearly show they are posting it to point out how ridiculous it is, to mock, etc.

Some Examples (most of which now appear to be deleted from sdf itself? but are still are visible on my instance):

I'm a big fan of Funhole, and I get that this is a very jokey sorta group where serious responses aren't the norm, but I do think in this instance it'd probably be appropriate for them to be less ambiguous on their stance just to clear the air here.

That's just my 2 cents.

[–] pmjv@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Look, I don't know anything about any of that. I'm here to create Fun content and get mad at computers. I just think it's absurd that thousands of lemmy users are prevented from seeing my content, because of someone else's interpretation of another user's activity.

Some Examples (most of which now appear to be deleted from sdf itself? but are still are visible on my instance):

There are 9 months of SDF content missing because of a storage outage in April.

but I do think in this instance it’d probably be appropriate for them to be less ambiguous on their stance just to clear the air here.

If you have to explain your art, you're doing it wrong.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

If you have to explain your art, you’re doing it wrong.

They don't have to explain their art, but I think it would likely be helpful in resolving this situation that is preventing people from seeing your content if qrstuv explained what their intention was in posting pro-israeli government propaganda with no additional context for months in a non-art news community 🤷

[–] pieguy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

/c/news most certainly is an art community. It's bizarre art, mind you, whose schtick sometimes feels a bit drawn out, but art nonetheless.

Don't believe me? Leave a comment reply with an abbreviation and get back to me in 2 days.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Most of the posts on /c/news are locked with no ability to leave a comment, though? And the the comments that were made on some of the posts before they were locked are just people earnestly responding to the article?

Coming from someone who likes weird humor, I'm not seeing anything that would distinguish it from any other news community,

[–] pieguy@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Most of the posts on /c/news are locked with no ability to leave a comment, though?

That's part of the schtick.

[...] but nothing in particular seemed to happen?

Oh I guarantee you something did, though it may've expired by now. The remaining records may've just been lost after our home instance suffered a data loss.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

The records appear to be fully intact on my side, it seems they were only lost on SDF itself (but other instances such as mine appear to have a complete mirror of the missing content, AFAIK) Feel free to browse it from my instance to find examples of what you mean: https://slrpnk.net/c/news@lemmy.sdf.org.

That’s part of the schtick.

Uh... Okay. So if I have this right (and I'm genuinely asking in good faith), the 'schtick' is to mostly post pro-Israeli news and lock the thread, and then sometimes not lock the thread and potentially (though from my end scrolling through the pages, seemingly never?) do something involving abbreviations in the comments?

[–] pieguy@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The records appear to be fully intact on my side [...]

Cheers!

[the schtick]

What I've gathered is that the schtick is to find some really cringey/odd article from NYT bordering more on opinion rather than news, share it on /c/news, wait for people who stumble upon it not knowing the schtick to leave their serious comments, and then after 2 days lock the post (all posts do get locked after this period, are the ones you see more recent?) and tempban everyone who left a comment for some asinine reason (ex: "abbreviations").

My best guess is that it's absurdist commentary about the antics that some self-absorbed moderators get up to.

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Ahh, I see what you mean now after looking at the modlog.

I think that's actually quite a funny idea, though I still have to question that particular material being chosen to bait in people, as ultimately it helps spread Israel's message (though it is probably unlike to be terribly effective on lemmy) for the sake of some laughs with an inside joke.

And as most people who stumble across it are likely to never know the context you just shared with me, it's fairly indistinguishable from the 'real thing', which means getting treated in the same way as the real thing (and that has clearly resulted in a not ideal outcome for Funhole, and some distress for its contributors).

[–] marduk@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can't prove OP isn't the NYT

[–] pmjv@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 weeks ago
[–] pieguy@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well that's denialism for y'a: They're denying their userbase access to your content

[–] qrstuv@lemmy.sdf.org -3 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you for your support.

[–] Linearity@piefed.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

wtf? I thought .zip was one of the more flexible instances; they even federate with hexbear. What could have possibly happened?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe "hexbear" is where you should start your search? It's the worst lemmy out there.

gotta be better instances out there that dont make those decisions for users

OP was instance banned for being a zionist, so meh. TDI.

Thank you for your support.

[–] pieguy@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Thank you for your support.

To avoid accusations of Victim-Blaming, I will express my opinion on the matter without directly referencing the OP in any way:

I support the decision of any moderator or administrative team to remove any content posted by Zionists. All Zionists should be excluded and shunned from everyday life in all respects, not just when they are directly advancing Zionism. I do not believe that the .zip moderation team has engaged in abuse.

I have that entire instance blocked.

You got banned for being a zionist? If anything, for having to interact with your content, mods were the victims here. You're breaking rule 1.

Uhm. You're banned there.

Try your current account server: https://lemmy.sdf.org/c/funhole (manually copy and paste this into a new tab if needed)

And not https://lemmy.zip/ ...

Thank you for abusing the mods

[–] ParadoxConstant@thelemmy.club -1 points 2 weeks ago

I’m so sorry this happened to you.
