Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

This is one of the most cringe-inducing photos I’ve seen from America. It so perfectly captures how the world sees Americans. I know they aren’t all like this, but that there are government officials who are? Yikes, y’all. Yikes.

No one is really like this. It’s just virtue signaling to insane people.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Oh, there are plenty of people like this in the US. A lot of other people who wish they were.

An absolute fuckton of people are exactly like this, if this wasn't fairly normal then we wouldn't consistently have 1/3-2/3 of the country agreeing that these exact people are the best politicians.

I grew up in an insanely red area that was very rural. Very much a gun culture. Most trucks had a gun rack on them, etc. We had both the first day of buck season and doe season off, because most kids old enough to hunt, including some girls, were going to be skipping school anyway.

I remember visiting a kid down the road on a snow day during high school. We watched Predator on VHS + some other movies. I remember four things - Predator, since that was the first time I saw it. I remember they had several dogs that seemingly tracked in poop into the house and no one in their family seemed particularly motivated to clean it up in a timely way (but they did rent the farm house they lived in). I remember having to walk several miles back to my house in the pitch black dark in rather deep snow after watching Predator, LOL.

Lastly: I remember being blown the fuck away by how many guns they had. I mean. Several long guns - shotguns and rifles, propped up in what seemed like every corner. Several handguns, on virtually every flat surface. I didn't really go anywhere else but the entryway, kitchen, bathroom and living room. I don't remember guns in the bathroom, but everywhere else had a gun in your field of vision no matter where you turned.

I doubt they had a lot of money. And they had probably thousands of dollars' worth of guns laying around.

These people definitely exist.

Bud, Massie doesn't have the Epstein files, and he's been one of the only Republicans pushing for it. I'm not sure what you expect.

Further, he's a solid R. He's gonna endorse and vote for other conservative candidates. Also not sure what you expect.

Seems like you thought he turned to the left which is most certainly not the case. He only grew a spine on one specific issue, which we shouldn't be attacking him for. Easy to attack him on lots of other issues, though.

Massie isn't a Never Trump Republican. In his own primary campaign, he was proudly saying that he voted with Trump the vast majority of the time. He's a guy with one good position and endless bad ones, so I'm not sure why he ever got as much goodwill as he has.

I grew up with guns. My father probably owned 20-30 guns. I enjoy shooting them. I think they can be a useful tool in the right situation. But I am not a republican. I have never been. This photo is a joke. It is pandering to an idea of what people like this think people who vote for him want to see. It is wrong on so many levels. It should be almost insulting if people think about it. But as I get older I realize people do not think.
