Video Game Suggestions

523 readers
9 users here now

A place to find suggestions for video games! For example, you might create a post looking for recommendations for a game to play with a friend, or a game that is easy to play if you just broke your dominant hand. Or you might post a list of games that let you use a whip as a weapon. A lot of rules for conduct here are pretty obvious (don't be a jerk, stay on-topic) so I'll bold the weird ones.

Rules

  1. Please stay on-topic: post requests for games that match some criteria you specify, lists of games with a certain element, or something otherwise relevant to helping people find games that match certain criteria.
    • If you're looking to find the name of a particular game or video game series you forgot, you should go to !TipOfMyJoystick@retrolemmy.com. This community is for fielding suggestions for games, not for finding one specific video game.
    • If you're making a post that is suggesting games, it should be a list of games. This is partially to help prevent the community from being overrun by people just suggesting their favorite game, and devs suggesting you play their latest game. This is about posts, not comments. It's okay to comment on a post asking for gaming suggestions with just one game.
  2. Don’t be a jerk. This covers bigotry and discrimination, which includes but is not limited to homophobia, racism, sexism, etc.
  3. Please don’t directly link to pirated content.
  4. When advertising something you have worked on, please use common sense for what is spammy. Self-promotion isn't totally banned: if someone asked for an RPG where you can play a lich, and the game you worked on is an RPG where you can play a lich, you can definitely answer with your RPG. I reserve the right to change this rule to be more specific about what exactly counts as spammy and what does not, but I feel I’ll know it when I see it and trust most posters to operate in good faith.
  5. Please indicate spoilers when necessary. The following format works on both Lemmy and Kbin, but if you are using an app it may not. See this comment for which apps handle spoilers. Note that spoilers in post bodies will just show the text in the preview if you link the post in, say, Discord, instead of spoiling it.
Spoilers for SomeGameSomething that happened at the end of the game! Something else that happened at the end of the game!

will appear as

As the title says, does anyone know a city building that has a good traffic simulator and that doesn't completly disregard pedestrians, Bicycles etc etc?
I played only a single city builder some time ago (i forgot the name sorry) and it had a pretty bad simulation of traffic, ideally it should also simulate well the other aspects tho

I don't mind at all if it's old or hasn't good graphics! I play mostly videogames with pixel art or very rudimentary art anyway

The city builder genre seems to be few and far between, best I can tell. Cities Skylines comes to mind as one of the more recent examples, but given that its cars have a habit of appearing from and vanishing into thin air, I'd guess its traffic simulation is rudimentary at best.
You night have better luck with titles like transport tycoon or their FOSS counterparts, but those tend to lean into the economic aspect, so I'd expect their traffic simulation to take a backseat, as well.

One of the DLCs in Cities Skylines added cycling, bike lanes, etc. though it may be folded into the main game now? There's also a mod that improves traffic management around intersections, though it has had a history of breaking every time they patch the game, so I'm not sure of its present state.

Has anyone played CS2? I need to upgrade my game machine before I can play that, but I've heard they've improved the traffic sim.

I'm not sure if anything has really surpassed SimCity 4 yet, especially with mods like:

https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/26793-network-addon-mod-nam-cross-platform/

That still won't get you the simulation fidelity you're looking for though. City simulators have been dead in the water for a long time.

Don't know about Cities Skylines 2 but the first one is pretty good with its simulation. Adding ways for pedestrians and public transport have a measurable impact on traffic.

That traffic simulation also makes it pretty hard. Most big cities die due to traffic if you don't manage it well.

Mods and DLCs also greatly increase the possibilities and tools available to you.

Maybe Workers and Resources if you set traffic to complex? It's supposed to be a very micromanagey game.

!citybuilders@sh.itjust.works might be able to help you too.

This thread is a little older but I wanted to second Workers & Resources. It's like a mash up of a transport tycoon and a city builder. Fantastic game, I've put over 700 hours into it and I still feel like a noob.

I bought it partially because I thought it would execute on this, and I am glad to be proven right! (Haven't had time to open up and play yet.)

Really would love a good city sim with bikes!
