Just blocked lemmy.ml from my Lemmy account, and I swear to god it's one of the best things I've ever done on this platform. My homepage feels actually clean now.

For the past few months I'd been seeing a lot of tankie posting and pretty much far-left propaganda on my feed. It got tiring enough that I finally checked my blocked-user list, and realized pretty much everyone I'd blocked was from lemmy.ml. So I just blocked the whole instance instead.

Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist: I used to think Lemmy itself was an echo chamber. Turns out lemmy.ml was the problem the entire time. Probably the reason I tolerated it for so long is that I agreed with a lot of what they posted, but like an oversaturated meme, I'd had enough. Browsing the platform was starting to feel way too tiring instead of fun, which defeats the point of being here in the first place.

The breaking point was seeing some dude post a "meme" implying North Korea and China are basically communist utopias and that the West sucks. I mean, the West does suck, but come on - you're saying North Korea is the ideal the West should strive for? What the hell...

I know it's a thousand times beside the point, but it annoys me how people there are saying "ml calls NK and China utopias!" and when asked for proof, they link to people saying those places are better than the US and/or, on the whole, "good/progressive/whatever" and when someone points this out they go "Yes, exactly, that is calling them utopias".

I'll be the first to say people can have fanciful positive ideas about both states, but that's not what is being said there.

They uncritically believe China and North Korea are complete dystopias and so the only reason someone could possibly disagree with them is if they uncritically believe they're complete utopias.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

But also tankies lack nuance

[–] Oppopity@lemmy.ml 0 points 39 minutes ago

Tankies are the only ones that have nuance. Hence "You don't believe they're dystopias? You must believe they're utopias then!"

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

One of the biggest trolls and anti ml accounts in the place is in there just flat out saying bush was progressive and left wing people make me more conservative while arguing it's everyone else who's not seeing reality

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 10 points 20 hours ago

I appreciate our anticommunist comrade making Cowbee's job easier.

Absolutely no self awareness. Claims to hate echo chambers, wants to block spaces with different views in order to form an echo chamber.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 13 points 22 hours ago

I-was-saying

[–] robotElder2@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

'Echo chamber' just means community I don't like. Like how 'authoritarian' means rules I don't like and 'terrorist' means violence I don't like

[–] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 11 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

recently it has seemed "terrorist" can also mean "brown person with views i don't like"

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Even more recently is seemed "terrorist" can also mean "brown person"

[–] besbin@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Wait! I remember that have been the thing since forever. Wasn't that how they treated Native American?

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 3 points 15 hours ago

Pretty much, they'd use any indigenous resistance as cause to take their genocide further

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The amount of downvotes i received in a thread maxing out at below +150 votes makes me even more sure about lemmy.ml’s substantial FSB involvement.

No updoots for me? Must be a foreign intelligence op!

only the fsb is capable of something as nefarious as downvoting someone's dogshit opinions on an obscure internet forum classic

Those damned scheming Asiatics!

Pops to comrade Cowbee out there in the posting trenches calmly educating the libs rat-salute

[–] Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

"I thought it was an echo chamber, so I blocked one of the perspectives" is amazing thought process

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist

Many such cases classic

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Bro lives in Brazil, that makes me unhealthy pissed off.

USA trying to intervene multiple times this year in the elections and this mother fucker succdem lulista do caralho is preoccupied with tankies defending China/Russia and promoting communism.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

The real problem that brazil faces nowdays is that tankies in a niche english internet forum keep china posting

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

Internet brain rot

doubt

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 9 points 22 hours ago

I'm as left as they cum, but after I've nutted I can drop the facade and go back to being a reactionary

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago (3 children)

You’re right about the capitalism bad part, but comunism good isn’t generally a leftist talking point.

[–] imogen_underscore@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

thought this when i was 17

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago

Is very likely that they are 17.

[–] yunqihao@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

A great part main of mainstream leftists don’t recognize communism as a better system than capitalism - it’s the the reason social democrats are the majority of leftists in europe and the americas

Fuck us 100+million CPC members, the Indian ML's, the Indian and Philipino Maoists, etc. I guess.

White supremacy is the black hole at the center of liberal thought: not directly observable, but made apparent by how all of their other ideas orbit around it.

Where's this from?

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 1 points 3 hours ago

I actually think one of us hexbears came up with it?

[–] yunqihao@hexbear.net 4 points 7 hours ago

I saw it on hexbear a while ago. But I don't know who originally said it.

Swap lemmy.ml with lemmy dot world and shit just works and this actually becomes good advice.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait you dont want to see the opinion of 100s of ~~redditors~~ lemmitors about how the west has its flaws but you must still full support them against the eastern hordes?

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like how all of them left Reddit to turn this leftist Reddit alternative into Reddit again.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 6 points 23 hours ago

They're complaining louder these days but it seems like the lefty instances are the ones growing the most. Dialectics and whatnot.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There's at least one user saying use mwog as a source for why ml bad.

Pretty sure the post they're saying is this one https://lemmy.ml/post/50962606.

Which I don't see where is implying that is a utopia, I don't know if these people know what words means but I can't see how anything different than 0 suicide rate can be called utopia.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

People have to lie about what we actually say in order to get people to agree with them, because a peek behind the curtains reveals they are the unreasonable ones. All it does is drive people away from liberalism.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

Ye olde “Criticizing the West is fine, but suggesting countries outside of the West might be doing a better job on some things is beyond the pale.”

[–] YOuLibsWoulD@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

It's maddening propaganda because what it doesn't tell you is that the only reason the suicide rate is lower (it isn't) is because if you commit suicide they will kill everyone in your family for 6 generations (the number of the beast). It's just exhausting need to constantly debunk this stuff in my social media home.
