Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

It's hard to believe there is anyone who would care so much about Windows that they naturally get this dedicated to crusading for it.

We know now days that there are people getting paid to discredit vegans online, and that's the only explanation for this that makes sense to me.

    discredit vegans

    lolwat?

like, "yeah it's true, they're all eating bacon when we aren't looking-" ?

my deceased FIL was a ms cheerleader for decades, went to MSDN events, had a home office fuckin chock fulla MS credentials and certificates (wooden displays plaques) - he would talk about Linux being a) useless hobbyist OS that'll never be reliable for REAL jobs (this was already delusional in the late 90s) and b) it'll be 'outlawed because they're gonna find stolen code watch'.

so just fyi, some people are deranged and ideologically motivated, his was probably due to insecurity about MS - even back then it was heinously expensive (CAL's and licence management being one of his main jobs and a source of constant budget overages).... wonder what he'd think of today's ms with bash and linux lol...

Not just windows.. They just hate Linux.

The reason I think they're an Apple user though, is that Apple users also defend BSD (since, the MacOS core was essentially unix based), and the culture changed a bit to look down on windows less when the intel macs were released with Windows.

I used to sell gear, and a lot of Apple people tend to just like to attack linux in my experience

The funny thing is that they say "linux doesn't run any games", but, MacOS has always sucked at games

I feel like this is probably a disinformation bot. Why would a human being have such strong feelings about an OS that allows people to circumvent corporate control/surveillance on their PC?

    [–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, it's either that or someone who has decided their special interest is hating linux. If it's the user that I think it is, when I looked at their history earlier, pretty much every post of theirs is over the top anti-linux.

Though I am glad to see that most of the accounts I suspect of astroturfing are generally downvoted to the negatives here. Though I do wonder if this place will end up being a training ground for propaganda that works on the segments of the population that are highly represented here that don't seem as susceptible to the shit that would get eaten up on FB or gain some traction on reddit. Actually, windows love probably does well on reddit since it's made up of people who haven't gotten tired enough of the enshitification to leave and are probably doing the same with windows.

That... might even be why they enshitified it so much for no apparent benefit at the cost of many users that contributed positively. Those contributions might not have been seen as so positive if they responded to marketing bullshit negatively.

Nice conspiracy theory! The propaganda bot must be telling the truth!!

Dude tried to argue with me that ECC memory is why windows is better.

    Yes, he's that stupid.

He kept trying to argue that anything open source is "commie garbarge."

You can see me completely destroy all of his arguments and he runs away like the MAGA bitch he is. Pathetic.

    [–] percent@infosec.pub 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

He said that on Lemmy, an open source platform, hosted mostly (I assume) on Linux servers? Brilliant

    [–] godsammitdam@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

Yup, and I asked him at least 5 times if he believes that why is he not only on Lemmy, but moderates his own community on what he calls "commie garbage."

He ran away every single time.

    [–] auzy1@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Pretty sure I responded to the same post.

He started saying Linux needed ecc for a while, windows didn't, which is absolutely ridiculous given that a lot of Mac's needed ecc, and windows server explicitly recommends ecc.

My Linux Android phone doesn't use ecc either, or people's Samsung tv

I might be a commie, a criminal, and a pornstar, but I am NOT a cheater.

    [–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

    Can confirm on the porn.

    [–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 hours ago

    cheaters

We call that lifehack around here!

    [–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 11 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Suggested it might be more fun praising an OS you actually lke, instead of ~500 posts on something you hate. Am now banned

Why do you think there's such an interest in VFIO and passing a graphics card thru to a VM? You think all these people are just happily making their own cloud gaming Stadia clone? Nah fam, they're fucking cheaters trying to hide their tracks. For every five legit posts there's a "why can't I get BattleEye/EAC to work in a VM?" JUST STOP CHEATING BRO

    [–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 hours ago

People trying to get anticheat to work are cheaters? How does that work?

    [–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago

Running a Windos VM for that one game...

I am not a conspiracy theorist

    [–] HouseWolf@pawb.social 3 points 7 hours ago

People still act like world governments spying on civilians is still a conspiracy theory even tho it's written into law in multiple countries at this point...

    [–] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I'm more criminal. I protest government laws I don't like, commit anti-gov acts when disrespected or dehumanised by said gov, and I vehemently oppose corporate exploitation to the point that, in political terminology, I "don't recognise" their authority. More so, my penchant for privacy will likely be criminalised before the decade is out.

Doing the gayest of crimes on Linux

    [–] funkajunk@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

Not gay-crimes! Those are the worst ones!

That's like, only 75% accurate, man.

cheaters in what? like do we exploit life?

    [–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 14 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

If Linux users were commonly cheaters, you'd think games' anti-cheats would work on Linux.
