Gotta know when to have the digital price tags update to a more expensive price the moment you turn down the isle.

Life hack, hire a hobo to go shopping for you.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That’s my secret, I always look like a hobo. Because I’m one health issue from living in a van anyway.

They’ve had hidden cameras in the shelves since I worked there in 2008-2009. But then again my store was high theft store at the time. We couldn’t even sell alcohol because it got stolen too much.

We're a nation of sick people chasing any release from reality. FDR would probably be clawing himself out of the grave if he even heard how far every branch of government has fallen.

I'd vote for him.

Write random things on little slips of paper and put them in front of the camera for a few seconds before walking away. The crazier the better, but nothing that could be considered hostile or a threat. Suggestions; Hi, with a smiley face I see you. Are you stalking me? Can you turn the air conditioning up higher please?

[–] Im_old@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

or a goatse printout

[–] Aeri@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I'm tempted to just start carrying a big roll of smiley face stickers and put one over the lens of any cameras I come across.

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Carry some sandpaper and scratch the fuck out of the lens. Fuck stickers. Stickers can be removed. Sticker goo cleans off. The same sandpaper that irreparably damages a camera lens can be used to keep your fingernails smooth and strong. You would be a fool not to carry sandpaper.

Some crazy glue would probably do the trick. If it gets on the edge of the lenses too, where it connects to the housing, then they can’t easily be replaced. As a bonus, the acetone it would take to remove the glue might eat away at the plastic surrounding the lens.

Then they'll ban you!

Which is fine. I'll take one for the team.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They'd have a case for vandalism, since the overhead cameras will show who is at each camera as it gets scratched. If someone is watching in real time, they could catch someone doing this before they leave the store.

Some fine upstanding citizen needs to write a script that crashes the system, posts a link to it on a QR code, and print off business cards that people can flash in front of any camera they come across.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think random cameras are going to curl QR codes and run whatever code they're presented with

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

A man can dream.

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Perhaps they put the camera up to deter theft and have evidence to prosecute shoplifters.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And that's supposed to make it excusable?

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (3 children)

In all seriousness, what would your solution be if you owned this business and were losing money from people stealing things?

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Well, if I owned a multi billion dollar business, and bought out or squeezed out all the other viable businesses around, and didn't pay my employees enough to live so they need to be on welfare, and took huge tax benefits and cuts from cities counties and states, and someone was shoplifting.... I'd likely still be making a lot of fucking money.

I expect the store manager to hire and figure it out. You know, do their job? Manage the store?

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm fundamentally opposed to capitalism, so I don't care about the interests of the owning class as they are fundamentally opposite to my interests as a working class individual and I'm not in the business of compromising with my oppressors.

I don't give a shit about the interests of money and profit. If I owned Walmart and all it holds with the power to do with it what I will, I'd turn the entire thing into a giant mutual aid network that would give this shit away for free. I'd be getting in touch with so many mutual aid organizations and starting new ones with the assets Walmart has.

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Are you suggesting multiple mutual aid networks work alongside capitalism in the US or multiple mutual aid networks replace capitalism completely in the US?

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The 2nd would obviously be the end goal. Ever heard of Anarchist Communism?

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

Yes, I've heard of it and discounted it as a potential solution to the excesses of capitalism for a few reason. But the primary one is how do we deal with an adversarial country who wants to invade us? There would be no standing army, just multiple local militias. If China or Russia wanted to invade the US we would have no chance to defeat them.

[–] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip -5 points 1 week ago

Home Depot’s done this since forever near me. Not a big deal
