JUST IN: Country's citizens reportedly increasingly concerned that new companies are operating there for a profit, as opposed to the country's wellbeing.

Our employees are too focused on making money, instead of being focused on the company's mission: making money.

oh wow, they really live in a bubble. I knew it was bad, but not this bad

Does that really justify the use of "JUST IN"?

I only care about what the place I work at does in as much as I want to work somewhere that doesn't make the world materially worse. As far as I can tell what I work on is benign and slightly pointless, which seems the best one can do in a hyper capitalist society.

Normalizing layoffs at Anthropic, so shareholders don't panic. That's the point of the tweet.

always annoyed me when companies talked this way and im about as intrinsinctly motivated as anyone I know. Not as much nowadays as our society is very good at stifling motivation. Sure I like tech and puzzles and figuring things out but I would not do it at a company if I did not need the money.

People need to feel secure in their own financial situation, before they can start caring about the company's financial situation.

Pay me so much money that I will do nearly anything to keep it, and I'll do nearly anything for the company that pays it.

But make me wonder how I'm going to stretch my meager paycheck so I can afford both food and gas to work by the next payday, and I'm going to be too focused on that math to worry about the Quarterly Weenus Report.

A job is not a purpose, it only provides the means with which to realise it.

Isn’t he kind of assuming they aren’t there to sabotage his evil plans, and collect a pay check?
