Nice, one of the main reasons I buy a lot of stuff on Steam is because it's easy to use with Linux distros.

I'm wondering how long it can take to just port an existing launcher to linux? If I can remember right, the interface, store etc. is all just the embedded website, apart from certain elements. That's something a halfway talented developer could probably do within two weeks tops.
They might be trying to integrate wine into the launcher.

See, all it took was removing CDPR from the picture. As soon as squeezing maximum possible profits stopped being the only priority, development of a Linux client began.
I mean to be fair. They announced a Linux client like a decade ago. So we'll see if this is any more accurate than the last time.
The momentum and attention Linux is getting lately is beautiful to see. Hope it keeps going strong for long enough to make it mainstream.

How are update schedules on gog these days? it seems like when I purchased in the past and had the same game on both steam and gog that the steam versions always got updated first.

It's probably interesting news for people already using Steam, since they've already made the concession to closed source software by using it, but youre right they its highly unlikely to be open source, especially since the Windows client isn't and the fact they'd be shouting it from the rooftops if it were.
GOG is a platform for selling closed source software. If the client was open source, would you be willing to use it to buy and run closed source games? If so, why are the requirements for the client different from the games?
There are open-source third-party clients already (at least for downloading/installing games). I don't see why I would want to downgrade to a proprietary app. That being said, I download games via the website, so I'm probably not the target audience anyway.
