To be fair she was also a child.

And further to the point, they didn't actually fall in love until Anakin was a padawan getting ready to graduate to knighthood. That would put him at 18, maybe 19 and her at 23/24-ish.

He was just nine and she was fourteen.

(14 * 0.5) + 7 = 14
(9 * 0.5) + 7 = 11.5

Sounds like Padme got some splainin to do.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

But she also didn't take a romantic interest in him until 10 years later.

So for reference with updated numbers. She would be 24, and he would be 19...

(24 * 0.5) + 7 = 19

Well would you look at that.

The common wisdom (at least in the US college I attended) for the youngest acceptable age gap for a person is to halve their age then add 7 years. So for a 24 year old, 19 is as young as their partner can acceptably be in a relationship.

I haven't personally heard this math, and I think it's ick and prudish personally. But you're taking a risk getting into a relationship with someone under 25. She FAFO lol

It’s certainly not the first thing I think of when I meet a couple, but now you know.

Common wisdom my ass. Its stupid is what it is. Relationships are always more complex than a math formula with one variable...

edit: sry for the crashout. I just really dont vibe with that type of oversimplification, but that doesn't have anything to do with you. My bad.

I couldn't possibly imagine a relationship with a 26-year-old.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

Well, it's the minimum socially acceptable age.

A 38 year old dating a 26 year old? I don't think there's anything socially unacceptable about that.

25 though? Well I should just call Chris Hansen right now.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 3 weeks ago

Probably just a coincidence. Not an attempt at ass covering at all! Nope!

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know about that. There were some significant glances in that first film. She was giving a vibe. There was something there me thinks...

[–] thenoirwolfess@fedinsfw.app 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My, my, this here Anakin guy...

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe Vader, some day later, now he's just a small fry

Not when they became romantically involved.

Holy shit, I had forgotten about Padmé's royal outfits, and how dumb they looked.

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I thought they were beautiful.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I can see the artistic appeal of them, but personally I tend to look at practicality first and most of them were absolutely idiotic in that regard.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

personally I tend to look at practicality

not usually how royal clothing works, or at least the practical goal isn't moving around easily or being comfortable, the practical goal is projecting the image of being royalty, important for commanding the awe and loyalty of the subjects

projecting the image of being royalty, important for commanding the awe and loyalty of the subjects

Very important in, um, a republic.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Eh, sure, but some of her outfits would be completely insane to wear in a war situation as the security service would have a very hard time evacuating her

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@piefed.social 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Doesn't she usually have her body double wear these clothes, and she herself wear the more practical attendant(?) outfit?

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's about 50/50. She spends most of the movie dressed as a handmaiden, but that's largely because the Tatooine sequence lasts so long.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't actually remember...

Me neither exactly but I don't think her outfits are that unreasonable considering this.

Easier to hide body armor under it.

[–] _cnt0@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

There's room for a lot of pockets.

[–] cavitationfetishist2@quokk.au 7 points 3 weeks ago

Straight up ripped some historical shit, barely modified and made SPACE

Release the Tattooine files!
