1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

The original stairs were pretty beaten up oak. Here's the stairs halfway done

Here is the stairs before sanding, priming and painting. They stayed like this for about 18 months because we got busy and couldn't decide on finishing.

Nice work! It's dull and tedious work that was worth it.

The 18 months before final finishing reminds me of the bathroom remodel we did years ago that didn't have a sink for 2 years because my wife couldn't decide on what to install. All done except the sink. Our daughters were plenty put out the whole time.

Nice job, that looks great. I can't wait to be done with our stairs. I will soon start to cover the steps. Then some new wall panels along the stairs and the end of the renovations can come to an end.

Before

After paint

Lookin good so far!

That's incredible well done! How hard was it?

More so tedious than hard. I had to buy treads, have Home Depot cut them to length ( I don't have a saw for that), pry up the old step, clean out the space, wood putty the holes, wood glue the shit out of the step frame, place step, nail gun the shit out of it, then lather rinse repeat up and up and up. Until it's time to sand and paint.

My favorite part is that at least in these photos, you have the same staircase / floorplan as the family in Modern Family. You might remember that a running joke was that he had to fix the stairs.

Stairs look great, btw.

I'll have to go watch it. I never really got into it. Saw a couple episodes. Thanks!
