It's expected to cost less than $35,000 Cdn.
There's still no mention of price tag, just that it'll cost less than 35k based on what the import agreement stipulates (i.e. half* the quota of EVs cost less than 35k and half more).
So this will be part of the under 35k quota

A $35k SUV would be crazy if true. Only missing detail is how reliably they run and repair here.

I think market-specific branding would help Chinese companies in the west.
I'd guess people will get used to the brand names. Hyundai was like that too. Most people will eventually settle on some bastardized pronunciation of the name, like this guy.
Most reasonable people won’t care, but I think a measurable percentage would be turned off by it, which you don’t want when entering a market.
It’s easy to drive a Merc, Benz, Bimmer, Chevy, Ford, or V-dub.
It’s harder (heh) to say “whoa he’s drives a Dong”
“I’ll be there in 5 minutes, look for a black Dong”
Idk maybe it’s easier after all.
Won't be an issue 10 years in and global brand value is more important, especially when entering a market to compete on price rather than on prestige.

Yeah there’d be a huge dummy spit here if suddenly barriers were thrown up to Chinese…cars in Australia. Lots of people driving them, using them as battery backup for home solar systems.
i used V2L on mine once during a power outage, a storm took out some trees that took out some power lines. Mine comes with a 3 plug GPO, one end to the car charge port for power, the other one extension cord to the fridge, one to the freezer and the other to a couple LED desk lamps, router and NBN box and USB charger. We'd lost power for about 2 days. Barley budged the battery level in the car.
V2H and V2G will become more of a thing as well eventually although lots of folks are busy installing home batteries.

Dongfeng will not arrive this year. And even the official agreement between Canada and China in January says,

It is anticipated (not legally binding), and within 5 years.
But Donfeng had a VIP cocktail in Montreal and they need some advertising.
You seem really disappointed at not having more low-cost Chinese EVs in Canada sooner. Me too. Many are.
There is no reason to buy a car made by forced labour, no matter how cheap it is.

The first to be allowed was a Lotus. Who cares. Very few people will buy such a niche car.
