Peter Thiel, the firm’s Trump-supporting co-founder, talks enthusiastically of melding technological progress with nationalist politics. Alex Karp, Thiel’s business partner and classmate at Stanford, who has a PhD in social theory from the Goethe University Frankfurt, has joked about using a drone to spray sceptical market analysts with ‘light fentanyl-based urine’. In April, a 22-point manifesto by Karp heralding the dawn of AI-enabled US military supremacy was posted on Palantir’s X account. As the company’s founders embrace Trump’s increasingly authoritarian second term, its market capitalisation has risen to $320 billion, 150 times earnings. The Economist has speculated that ‘Palantir might be the most overvalued firm of all time.’
