Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

from the the-censorship-police-are-getting-bolder dept

Another senior Trump administration official [Adam Candeub] is gleefully showing off his true colors: The current general counsel for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published an opinion column with the Heritage Foundation’s news outlet The Daily Signal calling for stronger obscenity regulation.

[...] Candeub proposes a supposed moral restoration of obscenity laws such that anything viewed through the lens of non-traditional sexual expression could be fair game for legislatures to heavily restrict or outright ban.

[...] Candeub works for the FCC and is backing a legal strategy that’s been used, historically, to aggressively prosecute women, LGBTQ+ individuals, entire communities of color, consensual sex workers, and pornographic and non-pornographic publishers for their speech.

This is the FCC presenting itself as the morality speech police.

Sex workers are not traditional?

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

That's the original trade!

These absolute morons don't realize that they're taking the bread and circuses that has kept us pacified all this time.

And husband poisonings about to blow up.

"anything viewed through the lens of non-traditional sexual expression" is not about porn. This is clearly an attempt to outlaw existing as LGBTQ. These people believe that being transgender, or even just dressing in a way uncommon for your assigned gender, is a non-traditional sexual expression and that transgender people are perverts for being transgender in public.

LGBTQ+ expression is the canary in the coalmine. Once they suffocate that they'll move on to the next thing: women's rights, racial justice, political expression that isn't pro-capitalist.

Anyone that tries to ban porn should have their hard drives checked.

Also, I wonder how much the young men that went for conservatives are going to looooove this.

On the one hand, you have this supposed dating/loneliness crisis. Everything costs more so you can barely afford to get by, never mind spending on recreational things.

And now, the very idiots you voted for will make it so you cannot even crank one out in peace?

Way to go, dipshits! Good luck finding that dream tradwife or whatever.

🤣

It's like they see the coming aging population and are freaking out. My dudes, it will be okay.

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

They are seeing the incoming generations and freaking out because theres not enough WHITE young people. Its the great replacement theory.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

But if one is to believe the narrative, dating and sex and so on are way down.

I wonder if these dudes all think that white babies are gonna be made by listening to the bro universe more from their parents' basement and voting for conservatives even harder.

Maybe a brave march with your face covered will get the flow of white babies going again....I guess it never occurs to them that maybe treating women with decency almost as if they are human beings and, you know, maybe try talking to them might lead somewhere? Same thing with dropping the far right wing nonsense.

I mean, most people don't want to hear the right wing stuff. You'd think they would eventually wise up to the fact that being a right winger is basically spraying woman repellent all over yourself...it's really hard to sympathize with young men bitching that they cannot find any women to date them when they are doing just about everything possible to make themselves undateable.

Even simpler. Remember when they tried to outlaw alcohol? But smuggling digital goods is far easier to do.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Finally, my 80TB of JAV will make me rich!

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Start saving some non-JAV for me, the girls screaming "no" dont do it for me.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 hours ago

I feel like this reputation is from people that only have seen Japanese porn from it being posted on American tube site. While that definitely exists; JAV, in general, I'd say, is definitely a lot more likely to focus on the women's pleasure than the men's. And the lesbian content is second to none for that.

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

I want to find out what JAV means, but I am terrified it'll land me on some watchlist

Oh yay, the 2026 version of the Meese Report. Christians and their wet dream of censoring everything to suit their pre-historic beliefs.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

I wonder at what point all the age verification laws are used as an excuse to do a live video + photo id type of check for virtually everything, starting with porn sites and for VPN access.

Then, start cracking down on individuals for not watching things that are approved of by the Seven Mountain Mandates type. Sure, they might "allow" straight stuff for a while...until they don't even allow that.
