How is a used cat a better value than a new cat? Both are free, but the new one lasts longer.

new cats (esp very new cats) need lots of care and attention, vaccinations, and, at around edit: ~~a year~~ six months old, need to be neutered. this can come with a lot of costs for the kitty-parents. used cats come with much of this taken care of already and are far more independent.

regarding "value"-- that may be a matter of opinion, considering how adorable kittens are.

That's exactly why I always buy used cars. They come pre-neutered.

You should be spaying or neutering your cats way before 1 year.

It's around 4-5 months.

hmm, I guess it's been a while for me. I think that, for males, around a year might be when it's hitting the red line for when it might be too late and they can start spraying/marking?

Yeah, and with both it can prevent some hormone related cancers down the road.

Is that what Bob Barker told you?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 1 week ago

I don't remember Bob going into that level of detail about it.

I see you've never had to bottle feed a 3 week old kitten every 4 hours.

Used cat has probably been rescued so probably better giving it a new lease of life

Used cat comes with experience

I have a cat because it figured out how to use the doggy door and let itself in.

All of my cats as an adult have been used, except the beginning litter of 5... as they were from a stray who wandered up to our house to stay for a couple months!

Since then it's been adult rescues from shelters, a senior from a disappointingly flakey daughter and most recently a scared juvenile who came begging for food.

Costco memberships are not worth it and just exist mostly for sunk cost IMO. They intentionally pay brands to make cheaper versions of their products they can try to pass off as the same version.

You're thinking of Walmart

[–] rainbowbunny@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 week ago

I am 100% thinking of Costco. Namely their version of Avocado pillows are lower quality. They do this with other products too, especially relating to name brand sport equipment.
