IDK, they wrote that "some European leaders genuinely are getting very close to Hitler", and I find that hard to argue with. Some of the recent EU laws were pretty damn authoritarian and xenophobic, too.

No one is arguing that. What's being said is that foreign actors have been stirring that up. Which is proven and undeniable. What's being done is hypocritical denial. Anything bad that happens to them is somehow a CIA psyop. Everything that happens to people who are against them is their own fault. The truth is somewhere in between.
The CIA has manipulated foreign countries as foreign countries have manipulated Western countries. Both groups do it. Neither group is correct in doing it.
