For example, the community "avid" comes right after "anime" but before "antisocialmedia@piefed.com"

I checked the community avid and its own name in the side bar is "Anime Videos". So probably that's why its ordered the way it is. The address (avid) or what you wanna call it is shown, but in the background the self given name (anime videos) is used for ordering.

And ancientinternet is called "The Ancient Internet..." Which explains why it is at the end.
