The pillow configuration is easier to arrange. The nightstand situation is more baffling. Do they both just have the same phone charger, same books, same water bottle?

There was a post recently about how the couple doesn't have their own cars. They just have two cars and they just take whichever one they want.

We own two cars; one is cheap and good for city driving and one is for highway driving. We use whichever is convenient and appropriate. I don’t commute; if I did, perhaps I’d feel more proprietary about “my” car.

This bed thing though. Crazy.

Everything modern uses USB C and they might be the sort of people who are on their phones before bed

pillows are no easier to rearrange than books

don't keep the phone next to the bed

bring your water bottle to the bedroom after filling it, and just put it next to the side you get in

one of the best things in my last shared bedroom was a bed headboard with integrated lighting for reading and a shelf for books and stuff

Gotta keep things spontaneous in the bedroom

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Lol is this a young people thing? We each got our meds, my CPAP, her giant water bottle, etc all set up. The heck if all that is getting rearranged at random! 😜

That said, I do always try to get her to switch when we go away so it's different since then we do have to move everything around.

I actually did this with my wife for a while when our child didn't sleep through the night. Whoever is closer to the door in bed is the one whose turn it is to look after the kid.

In a similar vein, I often don't know which side of the bus I'm going to sit on, but if I go against the one that my emotions are telling me to sit on it ruins my day.

Yes but the window view changes depending on the day and my general mindset

Whoa, do people really have specific sides?!

We just switch it up whenever. I set up the bed a decade ago so there’s tables and chargers and fans and lights on both sides, making both sides comfy!

this is the curse of neural divergent couples across the globe. we will never know the other side of the bed

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh my, my partner and I are both very different kinds of ND hahaha

I am extremely particular about heaps of things in my life, but The Giant Laying Rectangle is just a huge wonderful place I can flop on any part of and everything is okay for a while. We have a pretty comfy bed, which was cursed with an extremely thick memory foam topper that was gifted to us, turning it into the Ensnaring Comfort Zone of Eternal Sinking.

Glob help me if my items are in the incorrect place on my person when I’m out-and-about, if my shirt is a bit too snug on my chest or neck, or if the clutter on my desk doesn’t taste right to my eyes… but once it’s time for ComfyLand, life is good.

Y'all don't know the glory of individualized mattresses. We each have our own mattress which feels better for our bodies.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s fair and sounds awesome, but we like to cuddle to sleep :3

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

So do we. They're in a queen size bed

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I suppose it depends on the kind of ND to have the bedside preference then lol

I will say, I envy what u have a little LOL

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

The bed thing is nice but the particularity in other aspects and tics get exhausting sometimes… ah well. Gotta do life with what I’m life’d.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

I've slept on the same side of my bed for decades, ain't nobody gonna change that.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

What kind of chaos is this. This is madness

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not even sharing my bed with anyone and I still have my side of the bed.

(It's so I can splay my left arm out without it hanging off the bed while sleeping on my left side.)

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Do you maintain your side if you're in a hotel?

[–] wpb@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Absolutely.

[–] Gumus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

My wife always picks the side further from the door, be it left or right.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, unless its a king and then I sleep at all angled because more room to play with.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Are... your friends cats?

[–] skhayfa@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Those are what you call swinger? Or switch?
