The question is not which person to vote for in the general election. The question is also not why did a better person not win the primary.

The answer is that it must be always be this bad; it’s been this way for centuries. And if people think it was somehow better at an earlier stage, because different issues and people were around, then I envy their conviction

Because consultancy firm Fight Agency handpicked and trained Graham Platner for their million dollar campaign as their pet project. He's not some random oyster farmer who just decided to go into politics.
They want to lose. It's the only conclusion one can come to.
How many times can one watch the incompetent Democrats step on a rake before their sanity breaks. It's the same fucking scene on repeat.
Except that Platner wasn’t the candidate promoted by DNC leadership. That would be Janet Mills. The Democrats failed to find a candidate who wasn’t almost 80 years old and Platner is going to sail to victory in the primary because he supports Medicare for all, stopping weapons sales to Israel and trans rights, positions the Democratic Party is too cowardly to endorse. In spite of his many character defects, he’s much more in touch with what voters want than Chuck Schumer.
Except Platner literally is staged by the DNC. All of his stated positions are buzzwords which he has been trained to say. He believes nothing of the words he says and says them to win the election. That's why he's so "perfect" (as long as you ignore his entire past)
He's endorsed by Chuck Schumer, who is essentially the head of the DNC at this point.
Chuck Schumer only did so once his preferred candidate dropped out and Platner became unopposed in the primary. And all he said was “we’re going to retake the senate,” not any kind of personal endorsement
he didn't bother with others like mamdani, even after it became clear that his preferred candidate wasn't going to win.
something about platner made him decide to bother when he could have done what he's always done -- nothing.
Hypothetically, he might see which way the wind is blowing. When the preferred establishment picks keep losing then, eventually, the establishment either has to adapt to changing circumstances or become ex-establishment.

it's not 5d chess -- they just get information before everyone else. so they can strategize early, throwing everything at the wall until something sticks.
almost five years ago, the ADL publicly warned that tiktok was making palestine and class consciousness mainstream in the u.s -- and they'd likely been tracking the shift even longer. the DNC's first strategies were to ban gaza discussion; pour resources into people still unaware of class consciousness; and ban tiktok. the 2024 election showed that those strategies didn't stick.
meanwhile, others closely aligned w the DNC pursued two other highly effective strategies that the DNC leadership sidelined in the 2024 election. both have clearly stuck in recent elections: (1) hiding AIPAC/ADL/etc. support through shell organizations, and (2) elevating relatable, masculine men who are somewhat aware of palestine and class consciousness but don't fully grasp either well enough to be manipulable -- and they're strategies that are staring to stick in front of our eyes.
Given he has failed to endorse other democratic candidates for the house and senate despite being the dem candidates... I doubt that's his motivation.
But hey far be it from me to suggest the guy that explicitly endorses the genocide of palestinians might be a genuine supporter of a guy that volunteered for the military because he wanted to kill people, did 3 tours with the US military then worked for blackwater and still frequently wears his blackwater hat because he likes that it makes people upset; and that the latter might just be a plant.
This race is a tempest in a teapot. People will interpret many contradictory things and see much validation for and against the national system.
See? We can get candidates in office who want to change things.
Only the corrupt and evil are elected.
The democrats are self defeating.
This candidate, even if he is a good politician, cannot change a helplessly broke system. He was a rare fluke who will achieve nothing.
Ultimately, his winning or losing will not affect anything. Federally, there are broken things that cannot be changed.
There is no chance at reform nationwide, by any mechanism, until things I do not understand change significantly for many people.
Being honest about how broken something is; is not defeatism, but a healthy reality check. But seeing that is very hard for many, which is why people talk instead about this broken person.
It’s easier to talk about this war criminal who probably has many hidden scandals waiting to be unearthed, than it is to talk about the futility of his election
