Gram.social is a good one, hosted in Germany with thebimpoet feature available. Its the largest server in Europe. And second largest from the instances according to pixelfed.org/servers

Im at Gram.social but I cant import anything
Cant import? I'm not an Instagram user but as far as I'm aware there is an option to do that at settings > import > Import from Instagram (hit the import button)
Yes, I tried that and I get an error.
Maybe ig changed structure of the files
That might be the thing; maybe others on this wonderful platform can help you further.
@Kkk2237pl Can I suggest that success here is modifying and building on existing tools that work with other existing tools and making them work better.
For example - I found git.sr.ht/~cloutier/dotmakeup #dotmakeup by @vincent - which can pull instagram and twitter posts and syndicate them. #Friendica has add on that post to Twitter - so my thinking is that adding #dotmakup tools into Friendica would help allow users to migrate to Friendica while maintaining connections via Twitter and Instagram
Dropping back a bit Friendica works really well on #Yunohost - making #Yunohost easier to run on a homerouter as a drop in replacement for ISP supplied routers would mean that it would be easier for people to buy a bit of kit, take it home , turn it on , have their own ActivityPub server running fairly quickly and be linked into those existing communities (both ActivityPub and commercial)
I am working on a new platform that allows import from facebook/instagram. This is a hard technical problem for the fediverse because you have to balance importing with not spamming everyone with those imports. It is an important feature though, and it's rather shocking that little to no fediverse platforms are utilizing the GDPR exports to their advantage.
Another platform? Isnt Pixelfed / Monnett enough? ;)
In the end I thought that I will just set up new own Pixelfed instance, and I will import everything and fix dates if needed
What I am building is more of a Facebook competitor than an Instagram competitor. If all you need is an Instagram like platform, then pixelfed should be fine.
@lovingisliving If you want a #Facebook replacement then look to #Friendica - rather than anything new.
I have tried friendica. It is extremely mediocre. It has only 5000 monthly active users for a reason.
@lovingisliving
Hmmm, it has a lot of nice features and connectivity. But yes, it's not easy to handle.
@lovingisliving @zarapp I can only talk to my own experience but running an instance for friends and family has been pretty minimal effort
How do your friends and family use it? Have the figured out how to use events or groups at all?
@lovingisliving But to answer your question I started playing around with Events and groups recently.
@lovingisliving Well I have but my family aren't massive social media users so its pretty lightweight activity. I guess my experience is that friendica has a lot of features in there - I like groups and events myself but also I found myself looking at how one account can manage another - I thin this would be great for parent/child accounts - perhaps it might need a few more controls around what the child account can/cannot do ..
I'm actually not far from creating another friendica instance just as a 'trial' server for people I know who want to try it out.
I wish I was more capable in taking ideas for features that I would find useful and turning them into deliverable things. I'm a Business Analyst so I can define the requirements but I need some dev friends to help me out doing the delivery.
@lovingisliving What specifically were the issues that you ran into?
Improving it - that's alot less work than recreating something from scratch.
It's almost too many to list, but off the top of my head:
- General "jank", from how community search works to how events work. It's massive technical debt that is more work to fix than it would be to just start over.
- Lack of professional branding or vision. It looks like it is run by some random people on the Internet rather than an actual group that has a plan or vision.
- UI is extremely outdated and unintuitive
I also have an idea of how I think the platform should work at a fundamental level that is different from how friendica approaches things.
