"Roll for initiative."

"Sorry, give me just a minute. I got logged out of my dice."

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 30 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Better than "sorry, my d20 is disabled until I pay my yearly subscription fees, though they say d20+ rolls better"

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

"You should get the Electrum tier. It comes with a +5 to all d20 rolls. It's only $80 a month if you do a 5 year plan."

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 weeks ago

Every 1 is an unskippable ad

[–] 5ibelius9insterberg@feddit.org 26 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

You think this is a joke? It’s not.

look inside app
yet more dataslop collection

[–] RamSwamson@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 4 weeks ago

Oh yuck. The render and artwork for the box shows just the numbers illuminating, meanwhile the actual die just shoots light out of every surface. Horrible.

[–] FoolishSage@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I actually backed their Kickstarter, and after several years of delay received 2 d20s. I ordered mine with opaque surfaces so the light only shines through the numbers. The app has no payment or subscription, but allows you to customise the lights to be different depending on what you roll (like a crit or a nat 1 for example). They were also supposed to connect to roll20 but i don't think that ever rolled out. They also work without charge because the numbers remain visible, even when not illuminated.

All said, expensive shiny dice are very shiny, not worth the time/money, but very shiny.

Love how the indentations in the top part of the case don't at all match the dice on the bottom side of the case. Not the right positions. Not the right shapes. There aren't even the same number of them! Seven dice in the bottom, but only six indentations in the top!

[–] TheOakTree@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

I love that the D10 fits in a hole that is a pentagon, but the hole is rotated 72° such that a corner of the die aligns with the center of a hole-edge.

[–] I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Probably more indication that it's Ai slop

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 points 4 weeks ago

The numbers look too consistent and legible for AI... I think it's a 3D render of a product that isn't even halfway through the design phase yet, and which may never actually come to market.

The dice seem to be a real product already, so I'm guessing it's this charging case that isn't a real product, at least not yet.

They are pretty cool tbh but the price is a yikes https://gamewithpixels.com/

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 17 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Wow. Saw the price and thought, "That's not bad, really." Then I realized that was for one die, not the whole set.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Actually comparable for a lot of specialty dice. Which do tend to be a lot.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

The difference is that you don't have to replace your specialty dice after 2 years or so, because the battery died.

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 12 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

It's the price you pay if you're the kind of idiot who has to get the super techy luxury version of something that works amazingly well and functions perfectly fine at $1.

Literally one of the cheapest parts of tabletop games, and 100% functional at less than a buck or two. It'll last your entire life too, if you're careful. If you make a fancy electronic version you can charge whatever the fuck you want because the person already decided they'll pay more than 100x what they need to for luxury they don't need.

[–] geolaw@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 4 weeks ago

What about trust? Simplicity is a feature because it increases trust. Trust that the dice are fair. Dice that are unnecessarily complex reduces that trust.

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 7 points 4 weeks ago

They are pretty expensive, but considering each die has to have Bluetooth capabilities and a way to detect the result so it can transmit it, I'm surprised they're not more expensive.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

That is ridiculously gimmicky.

[–] gedfromgont@piefed.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago

Looks very very cool and I am 100% certain after about 5 minutes of looking at it you had enough.

[–] jagermo@feddit.org 3 points 4 weeks ago

They also work with foundry vtt, I think.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 17 points 4 weeks ago

They heard someone say "RGB needs to die already" and misunderstood the assignment.

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Well that's one way to have exploding dice

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Would this not make the dice much harder to have a balanced weight?

There is no way the internal battery is symmetrical in every direction.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 4 points 4 weeks ago

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

For $49.99 extra, they'll include an extra little inertial motor inside each die that connects to your app and makes sure it lands on the number you want.

[–] Minnels@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 weeks ago

As someone who is extremely unlucky with dice and bought balanced ones for a ton of money, if someone told me I had to use these, I would just leave.

(The balanced dice actually works for me)

[–] noodohs@ttrpg.network 1 points 4 weeks ago

For Pixels, at least, a great deal of effort went in to making them perfectly balanced.

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 5 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I have those! The d12 doesn't charge anymore after a few months, though. Sucks.

EDIT I think people haven't bothered to check what product this is, annoying as this is I think I'll do myself and others a favour by explaining what this is:

These are dice with LEDs in them, a sensor that tells when it hits a hard surface, and transparent digits on them. When you roll them, the sensor picks us a hit and the LEDs make the numbers blink for a few seconds. They come with a case you can connect via USB-C, each shape in the case has a charging pin, touching a small, metal surface on each die, through which they charge. In my case, even though the d12 is in the right position in its shape, it no longer charges. It's still a black die with transparent digits, it just doesn't blink, anymore.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

do the holes in the upper lid also not match the bottom

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

See my edit, I hope this clears it up.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

i know what it is, i was just making fun of the image in the OP because the holes don't match the dice

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, I guess they fit over the dice okay, no?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

Did it get stuck on a low number?

I got a set of these as a present, they stopped charging and broke before I ever got to use them

[–] jack@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago

I bought I light bulb I had to download an app, create and account, and sign in for

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 weeks ago

So close... Almost there... Unf, just a little more... All the way in... Yeah, wiggle it just like that, and... YES! YES, I AM! OHGODStheCHARGE! 🎉

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 0 points 4 weeks ago

Are we sure this isn't AI slop?

[–] Firoaren@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 weeks ago

Unfortunately they're not shipping to the US because of tariffs right now, excepting what arrived before tariffs. Ask me how I know
