Wait... The PS5 is already six years old?!

You hear that sound?

That is my bones turning to dust.

This is right before Final Fantasy 7 loads, in my mind.

Good times. 🥹

why are we making console startup sounds less cool as time goes on :/

For some reason electronics in general got rid of them as time went on. Mac, Windows and Ubuntu used to have really cool startup sounds. Today I believe only Linux Mint has one by default.

It seems computers used to have so much cool stuff that is just gone...

Mac still has it. You may have to specifically enable it but my MacBook has it (just got a new M5 2026 model MacBook Pro a few weeks ago that does it when I turn it on; I restored from a Time Machine backup so it may have carried over from my previous MacBook). In Windows, on Windows 10 and 11, you had to enable it too. I used to enable it because I enjoyed hearing it on start.

Which is funny because I do use Mint and can confirm that one has it too because I hear it when turning on my gaming PC.

The PS1 startup noise is still the greatest noise if all human civilization.

PS4 and PS5 OSs look like total ass... Design seems to be heading in the wrong direction 😞

Playing CDs on your PSX in the audio player in your living room after school.

They have (or had; IDK if you can still get them if you didn't at the time that they came out) the different era start up sequences as options for the PS5. I just wish they had the thing Steam Big Picture does where I can randomize which one plays everytime I boot it up.

Rn I have it set to the PS2's.
