Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his country has started preparations for a military drone deal with Canada.

In a post on social media, he says 20 countries are already working with Ukraine on similar deals.

Global News and The Canadian Press has reached out to National Defence Minister David McGuinty, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and their respective ministries for comment.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office said last August that the defence departments in Canada and Ukraine had signed a letter of intent “to co-produce defence materials in both countries,” but did not refer specifically to drones.

Canada gets Ukraine drone tech and manufactures drones for Ukraine. Added bonus: Canada manufactures its own drones to protect itself from the potential aggression of its own rogue nuclear power neighbor which has made threats to invade.

The truth is, as the ice melts, Canada ends up with TWO rogue nuclear power neighbours. And Denmark.

We should never have accepted having a land border with Denmark, it's a perfect invasion point.

I think producing Ukrainian drone tech in Canada would be an extremely effective and cost-efficient use of defence spending here.

Ukraine is going to come out of this war a winner AND a global military tech powerhouse. I never would have guessed that before 2021...

Huge order sizes for military industries keeps the costs of production low in addition to exports bringing in cash from outside. So generally if a country wants a strong military but getting the money for it from taxes is problematic due to the political situation or state of the economy, they’ll try to export as widely as they can. Downside is that if someone you exported to does something nasty with those weapons then everyone who didn’t care for that will give you the side-eye

Putin has handed Zelenskyy a gold mine. Drones are the new face of warfare and demand is absolutely huge. Ukraine isn't going to sell drones to North Korea or Russian friendly states. They will instead sell drones to mostly European countries and Canada - states that have helped them. Israel might be an exception, but they will acquire them through allies anyway.

Now that is the true art of the deal.
