funny thing is FAMILY guy parody this exact thing. in a cutaway, peter describes a "now problematic writing by jk rowling" then it cuts to the SOrting hat calling the girl "there is only a guy or girl, and made transphobic remarks to the student.

Can we just forget hp and just let it die already

[–] Tiresia@slrpnk.net 28 points 5 days ago

We literally can't. Even if we decide to ignore Rowling, millions of people will continue giving her hundreds of millions of pounds per year which she uses to support fascism. So we are unable to let it die, and it would be foolish to forget.

But people will die if they have no HP

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Fuck it, get an extra life

[–] Soulg@ani.social 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

A cultural phenomenon of that magnitude will never die lol

It definitely can. Time kills all eventually

rowling will die first and maybe when that happens it's not that important anymore... fuck my life i hope rowling wont inherit the franchise to some trans hate group ;w;

If you want your fill of British Wizards, read Rivers of London.

The audio books are fantastic as well and my preferred way to consume the series. Currently on my 5th listening of them.

I've only read the first in the series so far, but Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson is another good alternative if you're looking for LGBT-friendly British urban fantasy. Content Warning for anyone currently going through a difficult coming-out process though as it does contain that as one of the plotlines and has some bigoted characters as a result.

Excellent, another series to add to my read/listen list, thank you for the recommendation.

Animorphs is the book series that taught me what war crimes and PTSD were without using either of those phrases specifically. It's crazy that I read it as a child, but it honestly helped me understand my dad a bit better.

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Wow, I read them, but I hardly remember

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Why is the title Animorphs? Applegate and Grant are very inclusive and politically progressive in their works and interviews.

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That’s why! Animorphs is the better choice.

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 17 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Ohh cool. Maybe "Read Animorphs instead"? The title now reads like the Animorphs authors are being lumped together with Rowling.

Did anyone else read Everworld? I feel like I'm the only one that ever read that series.

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Heck yeah, I've even reread everworld and remnants.

The

spoilersThe captive scene with hel, the way the Angel's sacrifice stuck with Christopher, there was some sort of gay relationship being explored there too, Senna in Africa

Those series are very original, creative and progressive in that they have a lot to say that aren't just rehashes of issues already brought up in animorphs or other ya series.

Grant's solo YA series like BZRK and Gone also get pretty crazy

[–] adhocfungus@midwest.social 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Crazy to see another Everworld fan. I loved that series, but never got the last book. I should see if I can find it.

[–] tkohldesac@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I've been searching at local used bookstores and haven't had any luck. I remember picking it up because my family was going on a trip somewhere and had my Game Boy taken away for it. I devoured the first 3 books instead of doing any trip stuff. I vaguely remember the story but somehow really remember the ending.
