Whatโ€™s behind Europeโ€™s efforts to ditch US software in favor of sovereign tech

US is an unreliable partner who have shown they can't be trusted to not abuse their hegemony. Simple as that.

In short, independence so they can't cut off services and access as they please.

Well there's that, but they already have the data. The greatest immediate threat is the crippling economic warfare the American nazi party can wage via the big tech monopoly, and they've already proven there is no bottom to the depths of their depravity. They are simultaneously the worlds largest terrorist org, and largest organised crime enterprise.

If they wanted to invade or cripple an EU economy, the easiest way would be to force push an update that bricks every Microslop, Apple, and Android device in the country. That would disable 99% of end user devices. If they disabled the countries accounts with AWS, Azure, GCP, and Cloudflare, that would destroy most web services for that country.

Every country that doesn't migrate away from US dependence asap will get rekt by fascism. Guaranteed.

They don't have my files. Not giving them to OneDrive.

EU want the data themselves to sell it too. Some of those politicians are seeing money signs in their eyes with money jingling in their ears whenever they hear 'user data'. With all of that data, comes massive profits and power. They have no interest in protecting our privacy.
