For context, the only recent rail disasters with death tolls in that range involved gas explosions or a tsunami. The alleged accident seems to have taken place at ground level too. The source is naturally an American book that claims to show "the real North Korea" and mostly cites random defectors in South Korea.

"rumored to be about 700" it-is-known

extract from the book in question, "Nothing to Envy"

In bad country, a train derails due to negligent and evil owners and permanently kills all wildlife in a 100 mile radius, gives tens of thousands of people cancer, makes the local area unlivable for the next 200 years, contaminates the entire state’s water supply forever, and the government says nobody died

How did the train derail when North Koreans push it themselves?

[–] DasRav@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

They pushed it over too many dissenters that were tied to the tracks.

If the rich were up front and the poor in standing room cars then who was outside to push?

brooo it fucking reads like propaganda, like even if you're completely uncritical of the western narrative regarding the DPRK how can you read that and not have a tonne of questions. like uh yeah sure even train derailments in the DPRK oppress the people, they put all the poors in the stinky bad cart (kim jong un designs them personally to come apart) and also that exact same train also has the super good carts with all the rich people in it, and they're crash proof.

The middle or middle-back is the safest part of a train. If the train crashes the front is TOAST.

I would like the person that wrote "the lower classes" to name each of them.

[–] OgdenTO@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

If only they had Chris Evans there to liberate the lower classes stuck at the back of the train

Yes this woman went and bought 200kg of rice by herself and put it UNDER HER SEAT

Why even need a seat when you have almost 9 50Ib bags of it

Also anti train propaganda, so even worse

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

Why don't they make the whole train out of the apparatchik car?

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

Crazy that you can just say shit. Only one person ever told the western press about this derailment? Sure, lady.
