So what I'm reading is that gas is still very cheap in the US. Double the price would be a good start for any change to happen.

That's still way cheaper than prices in Europe, even compared to pre war. In Germany you currently pay around 2.20€ per litre which is ~9.50$ per gallon.
Hopefully a hell of a lot worse. Hopefully so bad people can't afford gasoline. Imagine the fresh air. Looking forward to it.

If you want to experience this and can afford it, go to Oslo or Bergen in Norway. Their cities are downright peaceful, it's so weird to somebody from a car-centric location.
