If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Posts must be about owls. Especially appreciated are photographs (not AI) and scientific content, but artwork, articles, news stories, personal experiences and more are welcome too.
Be kind. If a post or comment bothers you, or strikes you as offensive in any way, please report it and moderators will take appropriate action.
AI is discouraged. If you feel strongly that the community would benefit from a post that involves AI you may submit it, but it might be removed if the moderators feel that it is low-effort or irrelevant.

All the characteristic traits are there but in a different colour palette. Also much larger from what I read on wikipedia. It is hard to picture those number when you're not used to, it says that they have a wingspan of up to 120cm, I've seen barn owls flyby above my head and they seemed huge.
I went and added some size estimates in another comment comparing the 2 barn owl species most of us would be familiar with. The Tyto alba (WBO) you have is on the petite side for barn owls. Ours in America are still solidly in medium owl territory, though only a bit physically larger than the WBO, carry a good bit more body weight, but the mass of the Tasmanian dwarfs both of them. It's Australia's second largest owl, with the aptly named Powerful Owl being larger. Tasmanian is really a tank of a barn owl.
Sadly there are supposedly only around 1200 left. I hope they can find a way to preserve these silent giants.

Tasmanian vs American vs Western (Europe/Africa) barn owl max lengths, wingspans, and weights for comparison:
TMO: 42cm/17in, 129cm/51in, 1.26kg/2.8lb
ABO: 40cm/15.75in, 106cm/42in, 0.55kg/1.21lb
WBO: 35cm/14in, 95cm/37in, 0.48kg/1.0lb
Given weights are a little deceptive here, as they are the max, not necessarily close to the average weights, but this highlights the differences especially well.
