Pre-recorded reel-to-reel tapes (and 8mm movies) were packaged in thin cardboard boxes like those. My grandfather had a few.

Maybe you were joking. Sorry.

Edit: In fact if you search Ebay for "reel to reel album" there are tons of listings with pictures.
