General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Sunak, now an adviser to AI firm Anthropic and Microsoft

Ignoring that his track record already proves him to be a lying, self centred, Tory twat. Nothing he says about AI is unbiased.

Nothing he says ~~about AI~~ is unbised.

Corporate greed is leading to fewer jobs for young people. AI is their scapegoat.

Corporate greed was always the case, AI has shrunk the employee space specifically for juniors

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Space for juniors has been disappearing for the last decade (see years of memes about entry-level positions requiring 2 to 3 years of experience). AI just gives corporations reason to continue the trend.

The principle protection people have from corporate greed is the trade union. It becomes harder to sustain a strike as the unemployment line grows.

I’m old enough to have lived through a good few of these technology hype cycles. There was a time when I too was excited about the imminent technology revolution and how things would soon be totally different. OK, that was a long time ago, but anyway, this time it’s really different… for reasons. Quite.

I’m looking forward to having a really good laugh about the AI car crash that is coming. And if you think this time is different, we do have a really nice bridge near by that might be of interest to you. Just give me a call.

It’s soo easy these days to get on a platform to be paid to gargle bulshit. Why not make a thing to give people jobs. Why bitch about ripping jobs away??
