i use note taking apps to log and search information about marxism-leninism. its a big research topic consisting of decolonization feminist theory history of disability oppression etc. so i want a good note taking application that allows me to log and search this information easily and quickly any suggestions. i currently use tiddlywiki but that has its own syntax and limits. the desktop releases haven't been updated in a while.

For note taking the current shiny thing that people are using is obsidian: https://obsidian.md/

Otherwise there is org-modes in emacs but it is tough to get into.

not being foss is its only downside though

and on linux you can run it as a flatpak so its decently sandboxed too

As a certified dum dum I've never gotten into taking notes so haven't needed anything like it so far.

I use Logseq, which is GNU AGPL 3.0 licensed.

Another big + for obsidian.

I use obsidian for research and writing. It’s free but not open source. I would recommend it still because it’s really nice for linking and searching notes.

Silent Notes on F-Droid. Barely talked about, local (no cloud), great encryption, very discrete and great formatting options. My personal pick after shifting away from the bloated and feature-limited Standard Notes.

Standard Notes is the move! I dig it soo much.

Edit: Misread the app name lol

zim is an interesting note taking app if you want to have notes with subnotes and have them organized hierarchically.

Joplin is foss although I haven't ever really used it myself
